Hi there! I'm new to 7 Cups! I've been in and out of disordered eating for the past 6 years. I have been stuck in a rut of binge and overeating for the past two of them. I have never wanted to seek help, as I figured calling my compulsive eating a "disorder" was silly and overdramatic, and that it was not a serious issue compared to anorexia. But now I realize that I was wrong, I am really not okay mentally and physically and I need help. Hopefully I can find it here! Feel free to let me know if you have any tips for emotional eaters like me!

@JoseonGiraffe Hey! Welcome to 7 Cups, I am super glad that you decided to join our community! It can totally be difficult to accept the fact we may need some extra support, and that our eating disorder has taken over - so I am proud of you for realizing you were wrong and that you need some extra help! That is a huge step towards recovery, and takes a lot of courage! Without knowing your situation it may be difficult to provide some resources to help you, but please feel free to reach out to a Listener at any time to seek help for your Eating Disorder! We are more than willing to help support you through this!heart I hope you can find the support you are looking for here! I look forward to seeing you around!heart

@JoseonGiraffe

Hello!

I understand what you mean about feeling "overdramatic". When my ED started manifesting itself, it was in the form of extreme overeating and it wasn't until it developed into more usually accepted unhealthy eating patterns (restrictive eating and purging) that I acknowledged I'd had issues with food for a long time. At the beginning, I mostly felt it was just me being fat and lazy and when I thought that maybe I had a disorder, it felt like I was just trying to shift blame.

So my advice would be, try to rid yourself of the guilt. Believe me, I know how difficult that is. But it took me a long time to understand that should be the direction towards which I had to work, so maybe it will help.

In any case, feel free to contact me if you want to chat.

Love,

Rosie.

I've been on 7cups off and on for ages but mostly just for other mental health issues, it's nice to find another group of eating disordered people to talk to so I feel less alone/more inclined to get better (:

Hello, I'm new to 7cups and I've been struggling with a number of mental health issues for the past few years, the main one of which is anorexia. I have been in recovery for around two years and am weight-restored but I still feel like food, exercise and body image control my life. I hope to connect with people who struggle with similar issues and receive some support (and give support ofc) as I'm not receiving much in my day-to-day life.

@SapphireGardens9686 - I'm glad you're here! Getting to weight restored is a huge accomplishment, but I definitely understand how even when the physical side is healed, it doesn't always mean the emotional side is, and I hope that you find the support you're looking for here

Hello, I'm Cole - female and seventeen. I have had disordered thinking for around 3 years, but only in the past year has it escalated to disordered behaviour. I've been very reluctant to admit I have an ed, but I'm hoping to get past my self-invalidation and take steps to recover.
