Small Victories
Happy Recovery Month! As part of our celebrations, let's share some small victories here and in the feed!
-----
In eating disorder recovery, sometimes it's the little, day-to-day victories that mean the most, so I wanted to create a thread for us to share those.
I'll start. Yesterday at a football watch party, I let go of my hang-up about cream-cheese based dips (I know, weirdly specific, but there it is) and ate some delicious cheesecake dip that a friend made that normally I wouldn't have let myself have. Yum!
Small victory well i was able to cook a meal for me yesterday after a very long time of leaving cooking bcuz i can't eat as i used to eat. It was a good meal and a good feeling.
@politeCup86 I'm so glad to hear you were able to enjoy cooking again! I hope you feel proud of your achievement.
@Georgie4
Thanks a lot! I do
Today I was able to cook a healty sweety (some muesli for breakfast) for my self. It's a victory, because once I loved cooked and experimented new things and then my eating disorder made me forgave it. But I want that feeling back.
@Malinconia that is great thing to do :) I'm glad u did it and hope u enjoyed it :)
I think the biggest small victory for me is being able to drink again. Ever since I developed my ED, I've had a rough time drinking anything, even water. However, for the past couple of weeks or so, I've begun drinking more liquids and enjoying juices and sodas I use to drink all the time
@OpenFire wonderful job! Keep it up! It's a great accomplishment for u and ur body :)
My small victory yesterday was having a bite of chicken with my spinach and not making husband leave the house so I could go throw up the salad. That tiny bite did not kill me !!!
@Chillybones01 - That's fantastic! That bite didn't kill you and now you know that for the future, too! I'm really proud of you for taking that step, even when I know it wasn't easy. Way to go!
@Anomalia
Was unable to consume more than a banana today.... :(
@Anomalia
and 5 cashews....
You are doing a great job @chillybones01 one day at a time.... and banana is full of potassium.... hope tomorrow will be a better day... sending you lots of love
It's been almost 1 year since I did 2 months of intensive outpatient for ED, and I am now back to a healthy weight, more than I thought I could achieve! I'm starting to fit in some of my old clothes again that got too big after I lost a bunch of weight from skipping meals.
@Ellejae18 wow, that's awesome! I'm so glad to hear that you're doing so well. All the best as you continue to recover!
This might not be a milestone for everyone, but I'm really happy that I can finally feel physical hunger and have cravings. I'm one step closer to full recovery and not having food fears rule over me.
@ErwineRommel - That's really fantastic! You're absolutely right that it's a big step towards full recovery and towards being able to really trust your body to tell you what it needs. <3
@ErwineRommel you really are an inspiration, I
My victory right now is dancing more as a great way to exercise, but remembering that exercising and burning calories means that I need to refuel with more calories, not fewer, to make sure I am healthy!
@Anomalia super Anomalia! Stay fabulous and stay healthy!
@Anomalia that is awesome news!! Realizing that and actually putting it into practice is such a huge victory <3 Congratulations.
I managed to wash the dishes without gloves, and I didn't feel any anxiety about it.
Washing dishes isn't the most pleasant thing, but at least I'm not too disgusted or scared of food to do it. Better now than never.
