Small Victories

Happy Recovery Month! As part of our celebrations, let's share some small victories here and in the feed!

-----

In eating disorder recovery, sometimes it's the little, day-to-day victories that mean the most, so I wanted to create a thread for us to share those.

I'll start. Yesterday at a football watch party, I let go of my hang-up about cream-cheese based dips (I know, weirdly specific, but there it is) and ate some delicious cheesecake dip that a friend made that normally I wouldn't have let myself have. Yum!

Today I was able to cook a healty sweety (some muesli for breakfast) for my self. It's a victory, because once I loved cooked and experimented new things and then my eating disorder made me forgave it. But I want that feeling back.

I think the biggest small victory for me is being able to drink again. Ever since I developed my ED, I've had a rough time drinking anything, even water. However, for the past couple of weeks or so, I've begun drinking more liquids and enjoying juices and sodas I use to drink all the time

My small victory yesterday was having a bite of chicken with my spinach and not making husband leave the house so I could go throw up the salad. That tiny bite did not kill me !!!

@Chillybones01 - That's fantastic! That bite didn't kill you and now you know that for the future, too! I'm really proud of you for taking that step, even when I know it wasn't easy. Way to go!

It's been almost 1 year since I did 2 months of intensive outpatient for ED, and I am now back to a healthy weight, more than I thought I could achieve! I'm starting to fit in some of my old clothes again that got too big after I lost a bunch of weight from skipping meals.

This might not be a milestone for everyone, but I'm really happy that I can finally feel physical hunger and have cravings. I'm one step closer to full recovery and not having food fears rule over me.

My victory right now is dancing more as a great way to exercise, but remembering that exercising and burning calories means that I need to refuel with more calories, not fewer, to make sure I am healthy!

I managed to wash the dishes without gloves, and I didn't feel any anxiety about it.

Washing dishes isn't the most pleasant thing, but at least I'm not too disgusted or scared of food to do it. Better now than never.
