When triggered...

Let's say there are people in this world who have issues with food and might not be aware of it. I just get really triggered with unhinged stuff they say, like negative stuff about food, their bodies. Try to be supportive, but it gets to me.

What do you do when you get triggered by negative talk if you do? It just happened to me and tbf idk what to do with myself. Ty lovelies, my first time posting.

As healing is feeling @blueShip93 , triggering can be an opportunity for me to heal. So I take those triggered feelings and sit with them in a place of compassion.

@SolarGenerator that's true, they do signal an internal problem. It just puts me back so much and I guess idk how to deal with it. What do you say to yourself or do? What do you say to the other person? Thank you for responding.

@blueShip93 I try to tell myself, and others, what I would want a child of mine to hear, if they were in my shoes.

Many people don't realize the impact of the things they say...I've heard the most awful things, really.

And then we, as people working on improving our relationships to food, get to decide if we "grin and bear it," or say something and rock the boat.

I don't necessarily have a solution, but I just wanted to say I struggle with this as well

@blueShip93

Triggers are very difficult to deal with. They can be challenging and many times we need to ground after we've realized that we've been triggered.

Do you know what grounding tools you have that work for you once you've been triggered?

If you don't know what grounding tools are, that is something we can explore, because they can be very helpful.

Welcome to 7 Cups by the way. Lots of supportive individuals here.

Hey Kristen,
I don't really have any good grounding techniques, if I'm not going into ed symptoms, I will try to just distract by youtube videos or start daydreaming. When I was in treatment, we were doing yoga and breathing, but I can't say I found it helpful. They are really nice when I'm already calm, but not in a triggered state. I would like to try some other ones if you have suggestions. Thank you for saying hi.
