Feeling trapped with my family
Hey, Sorry if this isn’t the right forum to put this on, by the way. Also trigger warning, I do mention abuse but I don’t go into detail. So I don’t know if I’m being over dramatic, because my family always made it seem like I’m over dramatic. The thing is, I feel like it’s kind of obvious that I have my own issues, and I can’t really get the help I need, because I don’t have a job yet, and even if I do get help, they might say I’m faking it, just like they did when we found out I had ADHD. Im 18 now and I really want to move out because I also have a lot of anger towards them in a way, for what I had to deal with when I was younger, and I just feel trapped. It’s just really hard to find a job right now, and I get overwhelmed with restaurant jobs (which is the only jobs actually hiring right now) and I don’t know what to do. All I know is that I’m kinda scared of my family, and I have some type of anger towards them, because they have abused me in some way shape or form, and as much as I love them, I know most of my family wouldn’t except me for who I really am either, and I just need to get away from them. Honestly, I feel kind of stupid, because most of our extended family doesn’t even like us either, which makes me sad.

I understand you're feeling like you are trapped in your situation with your family. It is painful to be told you are faking a condition that's been diagnosed by a doctor. Based on what you've said, it sounds like you are feeling put down by them, as well. Because you all aren't close to your extended family, I can see why reaching out to them for support would be awkward. Do you have a support system at this time? Maybe friends, teachers, parents of friends who are supportive of you? I must say, you have taken some big steps that deserve to be acknowledged. You have identified your feelings of anger with your family. You have set a goal of moving out and you are taking steps towards that goal but applying for jobs. You know that some jobs, like being a server, are not in your best intrest due to the stress and pressure you feel. And, you are thinking about therapy as part of your support system. I wish you all of the best in reaching your goals.
Thank you, for acknowledging that I’m at the very least trying. I have a therapist, but it’s taking a while for me to warm up to her, but I do plan on telling her as soon as I’m comfortable to talk about this stuff. It’s kind of hard to vocally talk about this, or talk about it in general right now, because I am scared of what might happen if I tell someone. But, yes, I do have a therapist, that I’m slowly, but surely gonna tell everything to.
I'm in a similar situation to yours. My mom is a narcissist and she hasn't really said things that are too harsh (though she has said to me many harmful things), so maybe I don't completely understand but I do understand that I want to move out because she doesn't approve of almost anything I do. She slways has a thing or two to say about my current job, my current boyfriend and my career choice (architecture and a master's degree in habitat). When I do things the way I consider them to be right for me and not the way she wanted me to do them, she'll just give me the silent treatment. I know the only way to stop this criticism from affecting me is doing what I consider to be right in the first place and also moving out, like setting a physical boundary that I can control but thing is I don't get paid much and the jobs I have been working on, are for just one or two months, I haven't been able to find anything stable. So yeah, I can't afford to move out. Not now, not in a few months unless I find anything stable. I feel trapped in my own house
