I’m 13 and my mom has been dating this person for almost three years. ever since they started dating I saw a significant change in behavior from my mom she would always be out and never really be around and we never really got to do the things that we used to do together. I would get really upset because I would always tell her about all the things that I would want to do and then I would find out that they have done those activities together. They would go on vacations to places that I really wanted to go to and this one time my mom missed my graduation because she was on vacation with him. I was really upset about it and she pretty much invalidated my feelings and tried to tell me that it wasn’t that big of a deal but to me it was. anyways, go back to now and now we all live together and I don’t like him at all he’s every single pet peeve that I have put together and just an all-around bad person. My mom is talking about how she wants to break up with him but I don’t see that happening because she shows him so much more attention than she does to me. she doesn’t just like him more than me but loves him more than me and I am her daughter. her boyfriend and I are not on speaking terms we don’t talk so now he only cooks him and her dinner and not me. so I have to find a way to make my own dinner and my mom doesn’t care she doesn’t even try to make me my own dinner or say anything to him so she pretty much just doesn’t care at all it’s just so annoying having to deal with that. I can’t even hug my own mother but anytime he tries to hold her hand, hug her, or kiss her she’s just all over him and it honestly just hurts. She’s always bringing him up in every single conversation and any time I try to talk about something that’s going on in my life she doesn’t care or she has to relate that it him and never has anything to do with him.

@charmingNectarine2137 Hey, I understand the agony you have been going through. It could feel hard to feel invalidated by your mother.

It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.
