Looking for outside perspective on a situation

I am looking for outside perspective to hopefully help me with understanding and my healing from an ex.
We recently reconnected and we would talk and meet up. However I was getting a weird vibe from him and up front asked if he had a gf. Turns out he’s been cheating on his gf with me and had no plans on leaving her. I am crushed because he was saying things to make me think he wanted to get back together but really he was using me. I feel awful and trying to understand why he would treat me like this.

I am so sorry for your heartbreak. I can't imagine what is going through his mind that makes him act the way he does. I applaude you for following you instincts in assessing his behavior. I imagine you've been on an emotional roller coaster since discovering his intentions with your relationship. It hurts to be used and manipulated by someone you care about. As you are trying to more forward, what boundaries might you consider putting in place to protect your feelings if your ex decides to continue to make contact with you?
When your relationship had been going on and off for a period of time, I wouldn't be surprised if an ex acted the way he acted to explore other options.
As unstable as he is.
