Parents or not? Help
I don't know how to make this short but I'll try the best I can. My parents have high values in life and when I met my fiance for the first time (he lived in another state at the time we were just starting out relationship) they literally panicked and said I was losing it for going to another state to meet him. Keep in mind I'm 21. I also have some mental health struggles but I try to do my best to maintain that. Throughout the process of me being with my fiance and eventually getting engaged my parents and I have drifted apart. It's like every conversation is an argument. Is there anyone out there who has gone through something similar? I literally don't know whether to just let them drift away and not talk to them or to keep trying to salvage whatever parental relation we have. It hurts. They don't even know we're engaged because I'm afraid they'll freak out on me. Help please any advice appreciated

Congratulations on you engagement. I know it must be hard keeping the news to yourself because you don't want them to become angry or upset with you. Have they met your fiance? It might help them to get to know the wonderful man who's captured your heart, if they haven't met him yet. Is it possible your parents are reacting this way because they are trying, in their own way, to protect you from being hurt? I know you are hurting, especially with everything feeling up in the air right now. Your choice to be in contact with your parents or not is a very personal decission and it's a really difficult situation for you to be in.
They met my fiance and barely talked to him. They don't really actively try to interact with him. They don't really give him a chance if that makes sense? He captured my heart for a lot of good reasons but all they see is how their daughter has changed I guess. They don't want us living together at all because of their religious beliefs but since I don't believe that it's like just anger. I want to have a parental relationship with them but I'm at a breaking point ya know?
