Riding the strugglebus on the highway to hell without brakes.
I'm currently struggling with my partner when it comes to communication in regards to parenting my 9 yr old autistic daughter. He lacks understanding of just how much of her behaviors are linked to her tism. And he wants so badly to be the best bonus parent he can be. But a lot of what he is trying to apply is for nuerotypical children which doesn't work. He is alway saying I'm brushing off how he feels about stuff, or that I'm more of a friend than a parent, or that I'm enabling her. I've tried so hard to educate him about it and give possible resources and explain things. But either he can't, won't, or doesn't understand it and I'm at a loss. My life is in turmoil. My relationship with my spouse is shaky. My older daughter is autistic and adhd is going through some behavior problems. My poor 1-year-old is caught in the middle of it all. And I only exist as mediator/support for others. I am no longer a person.
I am kinda in the boat. I suck at communicating with my spouse and now we are kinda on the way to divorce and we m trying to find so many ways to learn how to communicate better. Definitely being parents. It’s not easy and I wish I had a way to
We just bought a couples therapy work book on Amazon. Its supposed to arrive tomorrow. We know it won't fix everything. But we are desperate to try anything.
@Brijo
how is your husband’s communication?
There is a fair amount of misunderstanding or miscommunication between us. It takes a while to get past things when an issues pops up. We are working on it though. It's just so frequent and slow.
@PandaJes
For sure, that's really tough. Makes it feel like the relationship is getting in the way of life.
Sorry you’re going through this. Sounds really hard
@PandaJes Have your daughters been officially diagnosed with Autism/ADHD? A doctor/behavior specialist should be able to help give advice to your partner.
There is an official diagnoses and applications have been sent out to numerous places requesting various kinds of support. We have heard nothing in the last 2 weeks.
