What about me?
My husband, after a hugely traumatic event and a suicide attempt, is wholly dependent on me emotionally now: he wants to talk things through, relive the event, tell me about his feelings etc. I feel suffocated. I’m getting a tight chest through being so overwhelmed, when I’m suffering too. What can I do? I can’t share it with him.
@blueSkies2735 this sounds really tough. Hang in there. It seems like you are being the shoulder to lean on and you need one as well? I understand wanting to be there for someone and getting that same support. All I can say is commodification is key when it comes to these sorts of things. Just make sure when/if you decide to talk to him about it that you are clear in what you say and mean. Make sure he doesn't think you are just complaining. I'm always here to talk to you need some support!
@absolutelyabby my bad I mean communication.

So sorry to hear this . It is understandable that you are feeling stressed being there for your husband in these difficult times . And also trying to look after your own wellbeing . It does sound like you are having a lot anxiety as you are being a support to your husband . I hope you feel able to speak to listeners on 7 cups when you need someone yourself to talk and get some support for yourself .

Hi there, I am ScarletPear1945. I am so sorry that you are having to be the strong person bearing all the weight of the things going on in your home with your husband and having your own troubles can really get to be too heavy of a load to carry. When we get overloaded then it weakens us and our ability to even take care of ourselves. Have you considered going to a therapist to help you both? here at 7cups therapy is an option for a fee. We also have Verified Listeners that can help you with a 1on1 chat support. I know how this heavy load can affect us, I have a husband who refuses to make decisions and just forces me to have to step up and take charge. But as you stated that gets to be to much. Self-care is necessary to keep going. It seems easier to help someone else rather than Our selves.
I am glad that you reached out for some help, and that took great strength. That is very admirable. Here at 7cups there are many different forums that will support you and help you along the way. Do not hesitate to reach out to a Listener any time. ![]()
