Teaching the Value of Saying No - Macro and Micro aggressions
Hi all.
You may be wondering what's the point of this post.
Its about helping to identify what micro and macro-aggressions are.
Micro-aggressions: This is when the individuals talents are under-estimated due to the misconception of the racial group they belong to. Statistically less individuals in BAME groups are in the leadership roles. I know of an example in the BBC News where a teacher who was Black African origin spoke of her experience stating that she had a parent say with disbelief and shock to her "You're the teacher?!" and her thinking she was "just a classroom assistant."
Macro-aggressions: This can involve a workplace preventing people of BAME groups wearing religious attire such as hijabs or turbans.
Although different both these types of aggressions can foster emotional exhaustions and difficulty with work engagement ( ref: Workplace micro-aggressions and affective consequences: the moderating role of emotional contagion s12144-025-07740-z.pdf) .
Both macro and micro aggressions serve the purpose of non-friendly competition, behind the lens is jealously and a fear of not being seen as superior.
