Hi everyone. My partner of 20 years (since we were 13) and the father of my child just told me he hasn’t been happy for a year and is leaving. He told me last year he was stressed with work and needed me to give him space but now he is saying it was me that was the problem as he didn’t feel I made him a priority and now is using this as the reason he’s leaving. I told him I gave him space etc because he asked for it and when I tried to do things with him he would refuse. I’ve asked him for counselling and to give me a chance for us to work on us. He said no he doesn’t feel anything can change how he feels. Says he doesn’t love me anymore. I’ve begged him to try for the sake of our history and our 6 year old. He is taking a few weeks to decide but I think he will leave. Currently feel depressed and anxious for the future and unsure what to do with myself. Any advice?

i am seeing in real life as well as here many going through this......... myself included

staying for history or even a child does not create a happy place.... i know if you are on the receiving end the pain this must cause..... maybe put yourself in those shoes and if you felt nothing anymore how long would you be willing to fake it for the sake of history or showing a child that relationships are miserable because believe me kids know............

it is scary for both the person leaving and you..... lots of changes and the picture you had in your head or heart of the future is gone.....many people do not like change and what ifs

maybe they will change their mind with more space and maybe by the time they do you will have also changed your thoughts..... or maybe you will find something else that is better for you.

This is true, I just feel like we have a lot to try to work for to save, if that makes sense. But I note what you’re saying and your points are very valid. Thank you.

I agree as many try to save but as a person that simply no matter how hard i try to think back to relive something i have no feelings for my partner at all.......... i used to think it was a phase or just a low time but honestly it gets to be obvious everyday .........

i am sure your partner struggled with this as well ..... but he told you and was honest.
