Friendship
Hey!
Question: What kind of traits do you guys look for in friends?
I often found myself in toxic friend groups when I was a teenager. I neglected to take red flags seriously! Do you guys have any red flags?
In friends, I like to see
Support
Respect
Kindness
Comic Relief
Active Listening
Compassion
Fun
Encouraging
Honest
(Not necessarily in this order!!)
Some traits, I definitely try to avoid are:
Codependent
Aggressive
Mean/Name Calling/Argumentative
Critical
Judgemental
Manipulative
Deceitful
Uncommitted/Flaky
What do you guys think? Did I miss any of your red flags? green flags?
I am definitely trying to look for the same green flags. However, I do enjoy frequent teasing just because I find it very funny and entertaining. But that might not be for everyone, so it's fine. Yet, I definitely don't like it when people ACTUALLY insult me and call me sensitive/overreactive. I had a very rough middle school past I'm just now getting over now that I've just switched schools. So yeahh =w= I'm glad I am at leat out of that. But I still have major ptsd from it.
@EmpathysGarden
Personally, I don't like clingy people. Not clingy as in they like hanging around me, but clingy with their needs. I have been manipulated too many times and I can't handle people like that anymore. Respectful of boundaries and likes being silly sometimes are my green flags. Sometimes you just want a friend to goof off with.
@EmpathysGarden i like how you've covered almost all the red and green flags; but i would like to say that one more green flag that i personally look for in friendships is- understanding. Understanding is a crucial green flag from my perspective, in friendships because it means your friend "gets" you—they comprehend your feelings, thoughts, and actions.
@EmpathysGarden I'm not really looking for red or green flags. I am looking on how they act. How they speak. How they spend their time. And then I ask myself if this is something I want too. If someone parties and drinks, they are not a match for me. You can tell a lot about people just by how they spend their time. I'm interested in those who have a hobby. Work on themselves. Have interests. And are honest by nature. If I see a person lying or know they stole something or hear them talk bad about someone else behind their back. I'm not interested. I'm still kind to them, but I'm not interested in investing into that relationship. Just take some time to observe and listen. And wrong friend choices will be much less common.
I don't have any friends in real life and I'm cool with it but made a few friends here so Itz all good
@EmpathysGarden that is true .i relate to this
@EmpathysGarden For me personally, I want somebody who possess emotional awareness and situational awareness. I want somebody who is open-minded. I don't necessarily like people who are dense. I want a friend that is a realist, that has a sense of self-worth and self-respect. I want a friend who values community! I don't like women that are very selfish, egotistical and can't look outside of themselves.
Love , respect, mischievous (a little bit) , tolerance and acceptance
