My Loneliness & A Desire for Friendship and more
I'm a very lonely 27 year old guy. I'm not in school or working anymore due to some prevailing mental health challenges that are affecting me in such a way where I'm partially choosing to and partially unable to go outside. This leaves me very lonely. I don't have any friends or family I'm close to. Some old friends reached out to me online recently which is nice, but it's not enough. They're not always available and I feel like I'm not appreciated enough.
I wish I could make more online friends who understand what it's like to be me - someone who is going through a hard time in life. We could partake in some fun hobbies and interests, talk about our days, emotionally support one another, help each other accomplish goals, and share the good things life has to offer.
But there's more. I wish I could find a girl in particular who could give me a bit of love and affection too. I've never been in a relationship and find my loneliness to be moreso romantic than platonic in nature.
I find that both friends and someone more are hard to come by, especially because while I have a lot of hobbies and interests, I'm concerned that I don't know enough or engage with some of them to a point where I feel like I could bond over those things with someone else and feel a connection. I'm not completely sure about that, but that's the feeling I get. Growing up, I never went out much and even now due to old habits and prevailing mental health concerns, I don't go outside much and spent a lot of time indoors playing Nintendo games like Pokemon and Mario Kart and feel like especially with the former, if someone also shares that interest, it'd be easy to connect with them.
I feel like it's especially hard to find romance online because among other things, there aren't a lot of girls who frequent the websites I use and the few who do usually have partners, lots of male attention and/or are not looking for the same thing I am.
I'm a listener on here too and while it's nice to help others, I find that I need help too, but even with the help of listeners, the most that I get out of it is temporary relief for my loneliness.

I'm sorry you're feeling so lonely! It can be such an isolating feeling to be cut off from the world like it sounds like your conditions have forced you to be. I'm glad your old friends have reached out - that must've been nice to hear from them.
It sounds like you're anxious about not being knowledgeable enough about topics to connect with someone, but I would encourage you to not let that stop you from trying! Chances are, you're plenty versed, and if you're not - people generally love sharing about things they are passionate about!
I know it can be easy to feel depressed when you're lonely, especially when it feels like you have so little control over it. I think you've already taken a really great step by being on 7 cups and posting in this forum! I encourage you to keep putting yourself out there, and maybe check out some websites like Patook and Reddit to find people who are looking for the same thing as you 💕
@OtterlyPositive Thank you so much for the support, insight and feedback 🫂
I think posting and this post being seen will make me feel a little less alone and will give me something to share with listeners which can save time, as I know what to say and have something with detail to reference in case I don't remember all the details in the future.

Heya Mallie 👋🏼 Hey, I just wanna say that you’ve expressed your feelings with such honesty and vulnerability, and that in itself is a strength. It's not easy to open up about loneliness and the longing for deeper connections, especially when you're already carrying so much inside. Please know that you're not alone in feeling this way as a lot more people quietly share these struggles than you might think.
It’s completely understandable to want both friendship and love — both are basic human needs, and there’s nothing wrong or "too much" about wanting to be seen, appreciated, and cherished. You deserve those things simply because you exist, not because you have to be more knowledgeable about hobbies or more "outgoing." Wishing you the best and whenever you need support, Support Room 24-7 is always there and we are here to support you.
Hi Zen, I really appreciate you taking the time to read this and reply. You’re one of the most amazing people on here, always going out of your way to welcome people in the chat rooms and responding to everyone’s messages with supportive thoughts and you even went out of your way to supoort me here. Thank you so much!! I feel a lot less alone with great people like you around.
