Why is it so hard to make friends as an adult? sigh..

I recently ended a fairly new friendship because she betrayed me. I observed some red flags early on but I remained cordial. I am new to the area and have zero friends here.. all my good friends and family are out of state. It has been rough making new friends being that I moved to the most superficial town ever. I am glad this happened as I did not want to be friends with someone for the sake of having a "friend" when our values did not align. I had to be honest with myself...but I am also more guarded because it seem as though women over 30 don't value new friendships. Even though I have a boyfriend, we are still fresh and I strongly believe people should have a healthy balanced social life.
