Making friends is hard

I struggle to make friends, it has been like this for a very long time now. Halfway through primary school I switched schools and at the new school I struggled to make friends, I had a few friends but they were not really friends. My best friend was someone from my previous school. Then after primary school it became even harder, I had no friends at school all the time, I only had a friend from my early childhood and a few online friends.

After secondary school I had no friends for a long time. I have not had friends for years, but sometimes it depends on your definition of friends. I had acquaintances that were kind of friends but not really. Overall I struggled to make friends more than average. Acquaintances never really became friends because of distance and I often don't listen or struggle to follow conversations. In other cases I met people who I couldn't get along with, I met many people who I couldn't get along with.

Making friends can be hard. I don't think having friends is mandatory. You can live without having friends. There is no need to force yourself to have friends. You don't have to force yourself to hang out with people you are barely friends with just to have friends. If they are barely friends and you might even get in fights then maybe you should consider having no friends. If you have friends, make sure they are actual friends. Having no friends isn't a big deal, it doesn't matter. You can go without having friends.

But this thread is strange. The content is a bit weird.

I made this to tell my story. I actually created this thread for advice but the content I put in it is a bit weird, it's full of irrelevant opinions and other irrelevant stuff.

But can any of you tell me how I can make friends? Why was it hard for me to make friends in more recent years? I don't really have a place where I can get friends, I could go to a hiking group or something like that and I will but I hardly have time to go right now. I study at home and was self employed for another company for a while, in those situations you don't meet a lot of people. At work or school you might also not make friends either, which happened to me many times.

I hope I can make friends via that hiking club. I didn't make friends at my sports club so it remains to be seen.

@WiseDecisions

You are not alone with having trouble making friends. I have gone through most of my life with out any real friends (I'm 60 now) and don't have any friends outside of work.
Maybe within that hiking club, when you have time, you will meet someone who becomes your friend. Don't rush it, the right time will come.
I plan to join a couple of fitness groups when I retire and hope to make that one friend who will be there for me.
Now, I have a few friends here on Cups who support me and I am grateful that they are here.
