Making mistakes
Recently, I voiced a frustration I have with my best friend to her boyfriend. I was looking for advice from someone who knows her well on how to approach the situation without hurting her feelings. I was in the midst of an anxiety spiral at the time (which is not an excuse) and basically just word vomited. The entire message came off like I was talking badly about her and my meaning didn’t come through. He told her because he thought I was talking badly about her. Understandably, her feelings are incredibly hurt. She wanted some distance for a few days and I suggested we talk in person when she’s ready. Our talk was yesterday, and while it seemed like we left things on a good note, I’m not sure anymore. I texted her last night and basically said I would be giving her some space to process the situation in her own time, but that I love her and I’m here whenever she’s ready. She read the message and never replied. I’ve also been stewing all day, because her boyfriend’s family said some very mean things about me that really hurt. Basically that I’m not a good person or friend, because of this situation. My friend also said that I’m a very negative person and that it’s bringing her down. I know I can be negative sometimes, especially lately, it just hurt to hear.
It sounds like things got really messy when you talked to her boyfriend, and I get how that anxiety can make you say things you didn't mean. It's good that you reached out and apologized, even though it seems she's still processing everything. Give her the space she needs to sort through her feelings. It might take some time for her to come around, but letting her know you're there when she's ready is the right approach.
