When We Thought It Was Safe

Sometimes we become comfortable enough with someone to believe that we can share our thoughts honestly without fear of losing the connection. We may have different opinions, but we hope there is enough respect and understanding to talk about them without turning them into a reason to walk away. When someone suddenly chooses distance instead of conversation, it can leave us hurt, confused, and wondering if we should have kept our thoughts to ourselves. But being honest about what we believe does not make us wrong, and a difference in perspective does not have to diminish the value of a connection. In the end, we can only be true to ourselves, respect other people's boundaries, and accept that some connections may end in ways we never expected.

@CloudPotato

You are correct we can only be true to ourselves, and others may not always agree and accept our views.  For any connection lost it is their choice not ours and we cannot see or follow their path.
