😬 Talk about putting a guy on the spot!...Jeezus on toast. Thanks a h€lluva lot. 😆

One of the standard algebraic theorems is a2 + b2 = c2, where you can plug in numbers into a & b. Do the computation & the square root of the resulting sum will equal the number represented by c....unless I got it all wrong.

(Advanced mathematics was never my strong suit)

What else... The human shoulder muscle is divided into three parts: the frontal, medial & rear deltoids.

There are differing grades of pencils. They go from about 8H to 8B (sometimes the number is bigger, but it typically doesn't go past 8). 8H is super light, and 8B is super dark. Your typical 2B pencil is on the darker side, but isn't as dark as pencils with bigger numbers. If you want even darker lines, go for charcoal pencils, or vine or compressed charcoal. Keep in mind that charcoal will come off to the touch, so spray some fixative on it before touching. Vine charcoal is super dark, but very messy.

@jesusredeemedme2425 Cool. What brand do you prefer? I've used Mars Lumograph pencils off & on for years...their graphite cores don't have much filler, make nice dark areas & blend evenly with blending stumps, tortillons &/or almost any other blending tool one would use/improvise.

@Tinywhisper11 To help put you at ease, here are a few more solid facts:

  • Snakes in general are mostly harmless to humans. The only real exceptions are in Southeast Asia where certain boa & python species grow large enough to catch & eat small children. Even then, that is a very rare event. Everywhere else in the world, no snake gets big enough to consider humans as a practical food source.
  • Just about all snakes immediately turn around & crawl away as fast as possible, whenever they encounter a human being. The typical snake is much smaller than a grown man, & much weaker too. The only exception is if it's a female snake & you go near her nest of eggs--she will stay & try to scare you off, so as to protect her eggs. Other than that, snakes always flee when they see someone in the vicinity.
  • There are very few snakes native to England. Ditto for Ireland & Wales.
  • Statistically speaking, where you are, you have a better chance of being struck by lightning or falling down & injuring yourself in the shower than of being bitten by a snake.

@azurePond Just discovered a difference we have: I'm not "cat people". I don't fear them, I dislike them, & I have my reasons. If I go to someone's house (a rare occurrence) & (s)he has a cat, I can tolerate the creature but that's as far as it goes.

I'd ask why you have ophidophobia, but that's probably a silly question....a bad childhood experience?

User Profile: azurePond
azurePond March 28th, 2025

@slowdecline48 Haha... fair enough! I'm not really a cat person either but I DO LOVE ONE CAT—my best friend's cat. She’s the only cat I love actually and the only pet I’ve ever felt attached to.

As for ophidiophobia, it’s not a silly question, but honestly, I don’t know the exact reason. I just have this instinctive ick when it comes to snakes. Plus, a lot of them are venomous and I don’t know much about them, so that probably adds to the fear. Most people tend to be afraid of what they don’t understand, right?

But when it comes to real fear—I’m actually terrified of dogs. (Though I love the cute gifs and videos of dogs... in real life, I will not be patting a dog's head) It wasn’t a traumatic experience or anything but my grandfather had hunting dogs... the big territorial crazy kind. I don’t know their breeds (another topic I’m clueless about) but their names were Caesar, Kaiser, Czar, and Basilissa (If that does not make you atleast a tiny bit scared, I dont know what will). I still remember seeing Lisa kill a hen once, and that was enough for me. Those dogs were so strong it took like two people to control one, with big chains and separate cages, and they only obeyed my grandfather. Maybe I’m exaggerating since I was small back then and everything seemed bigger than it really was—but to this day, even golden retrievers make me uneasy.

It’s highly unlikely I’d ever have a dog or a cat, though. For one, I’m the kind of person who just leaves home and goes off the grid for weeks or even months and I wouldn’t want to leave another living thing behind to fend on its own.
... Sooo that’s my story—how about you? Why don’t you like cats?

User Profile: slowdecline48
slowdecline48 March 28th, 2025

I'm not cat people--though I loved them when I was a kid--because

  1. Feral cats are one of the more invasive species humans have inflicted on places where they shouldn't exist. A few years ago, one source said an estimated 200 avian species have gone extinct in North America from feral cat predation. (It might've been Smithsonian magazine but I don't recall now) Similar bad news for the British Isles.
  2. They don't give a damn about the people who look after them. A common saying among cat fanciers is something like "dogs have owners, cats have staff"...there's truth in that. Some of them are so proud to be servile to their animals. 🤮 To a typical house cat you are a source of food & water, living in a house that it owns...no real affection there. *smh*
  3. I'm allergic to cat hair.
  4. Far as domestic animals go, they're useless for anything other than keeping the mouse population under control. Even then, you won't have any problems unless you leave food out or own something that attracts mice, i.e. a granary...so in most cases a cat is just an unnecessary expense.
  5. It's because of feral cats that we have CCLs...crazy cat ladies. Yes, they exist! A particularly bad example of the breed lives in the apartment complex I'm in right now. The only things she cares about are the disease-ridden urchins she feeds & her flower arrangements. From what I can tell, in her view humans are just things to be manipulated & controlled.

Am also allergic to dog hair too, but I prefer dogs for reasons related to the above. (I can understand your fear, however. When I was a kid I was afraid of clowns--before It came out!) However I do not own any pets, as I feel I'm not up to the responsibility involved.

@slowdecline48 I understand. Yeah... we are servants to cats but I actually love that they’re independent. That’s exactly why I love my friend’s cat—imagine if it were clingy while I babysat it for a few days! Instead I get to be like the cool aunt who watches a kid, then hands them back to their parents when they start crying—no responsibilities. And I completely agree with that last line. Pets aren’t for us. 🙂

@jesusredeemedme2425

You know how when an ant gets squished other ants come to the scene?

It's because they release a pheromone that alerts to the danger, and it's insanely potent, but it gets weirder...

There was an experiment done where little stilts were made and attach to ant's legs. Other ants in the colony had their legs shortened, and others didn't have their legs messed with.  So, if an ant with normal-length legs dies and releases the pheromone... The regular ants would be attracted to the exact location, but the ones with stilts would overshoot, and the ones with shorter legs didn't make it as far.

It was found to be related to the number of steps taken away from the colony by the ant that released the pheromone, implying an internal and hive-minded pedometer of sorts.

Once my friend shared me a video about a guy being interviewed. The guy was exposing himself as a psycho or pedo idk. He was being enthusiastic about little kids in a weird way and stuff. Idk who the *** was he and why was he being interviewed. And the content was edited with the words that says "this is being normalised now" like a controversy or so. My friend sends this clip to me and says "bro see this is being normalised now" just exactly like the words he sees in the content. Now here's a thought popped in my mind as a response to that. Why did my friend happen to think that so fast? Because the content was edited with them words by someone. Even the same thought pops for others as well when the video is shared among them. And they wouldn't even bother and really think that it is normal after seeing a similar content again. Maybe some of them who sees that could also be psychos or pedos, who knows. And this could lead such people to be easily encouraged and really think that it is normal now and starts committing such crimes. To me it seems like the cause of this problems could not even be the pedo guy who was being interviewed. It could be the interviewer or the one who edited the content like that.

Sometimes these people are not even aware of what they are doing which could cause problems OR they are doing it on purpose with bad intentions who knew because you know the world is weird, matrix, evil, blah blah, right? So yeah that's that. Therefore, such psychos or pedos shouldn't be exposed among people by making such interview videos or so. Even if it happens, the content should not be edited in such a way of new thoughts popping in people minds. Always watch what you share. Take your time to be wise before you do anything.
