A true friend is someone who...
Everyone has a different definition of a "true" friend.
But certain characteristics like Honesty, Kindness, Loyalty are in everyone's definition of a true friend.
What is your definition of a "true" friend? And what traits do you look for in a true friend?

A true friend is someone who is there by your side in the darkest and brightest moments. is someone who you should trust with you whole heart. is someone who should never betray you. is someone who should always support you
@babydino69 Nice! I agree with all of these. Trust is very important in friendships. Thanks for sharing.

No problem! <3
A true friend is honest, caring, supportive and understanding. No matter how much time passes, you always feel like you can just pick up where you left off, as if no time passed at all. They don’t give up on you, don’t betray you. They’re trustworthy and reliable.
A true friend is someone who is there for you in your worst moments. Even if it's to slap your face, but always to make you a better person, not worse.
Pretty sure this doesn't exist anymore.
Hmmm, I always have levels of things. I would have to define by a friend, a true friend, and a best friend.
Friend: someone generally kind and decent, just someone I could see here and there.
True friend: A higher level of innate understanding. Always there to help, could just be there at the drop of a hat to help. Could call at midnight and they would answer. Kind, and have to be good to other people too, not just me. I think even though I've never met people on this app, the level of kindness that I experience here is amazing.
Best friend: Full understanding. Same wavelength, literally become your family no matter the relation. Doesn't matter how long you don't see each other, you pick back up right where you were before. I would find it hard to call someone I've never met in person a best friend. You can definitely have more than one.
I'd say in general, I really value altruism, and love to watch people interact with others when they're helping other people. I think that's when you see a lot of people at their best.
A true friend is someone who is honest with you. It's someone who shares their problems and worries and happiness with you. They don't have to relate to you. But if they try to understand you and laugh with you and genuinely want to spend time with you, they are a true friend. A true friend also does not expect much from you. It takes two to form a relationship though, so if one of them is doing all the talking and work, it's not fair to them. A true friendship is when both parties care for each other and is there for one another

I've not felt able to form bonds or friendships for quite awhile, but I felt like remembering and thinking about it, my bad for anything.
It might not be fully on topic, but I generally see values and habits as more related to how good of a friend someone is, but those are never set in stone for me; a 'true' friend for me is more of a relational status after a few meaningful years of being together, as in that it's a long term/established friendships. I feel iffy calling anyone I've not been 'friends' with for less than 2-3 years a friend at all. And true friends don't have to be 'great' friends on paper, I couldn't care, but rather stable relationship-wise and not harsh or mean.
For good friends, I'll value things different depending on what they'll affect. If something undermines the stability/resilience of the bond, I'll care about it, but if it's just helpfulness or meaningfulness, I couldn't really care 99% of the time (why I don't care if a friend is a good one or just neutral)
So, respect of boundaries, mutual understanding/interest and low maintenance traits might be necessary for it to have a good footing on the long term. I feel that it's fine if anyone goes against some of those to some degree during odd mental health episode, but that's person specific.
As for how much of a good boy/girl/enby they are :
kindness -- more as a general type of trait, not meaning actions or nice/sweet things;
proactiveness/helpfulness -- I would never mildly care except if we've talked about very specific MH episodes and either are reaching out, even then not necessarily. Can include checking in, or whatever in context;
patience and seeking understanding -- to avoid misunderstandings or more sentimental alienation;
sweetness and activities -- it's just a positive thing to bring that type of energy. Kind of like proactiveness and such, but I just mean gifting, proposing things or just being nice.
A true friend is someone who stays in touch and makes time for you. I hate the Facebook memes about how you are still a friend even though you haven't talked or gotten together for a long time.
