Was the Gold Rush really worth it?
@jesusredeemedme2425 uhhh. I don't know enough about this to have an opinion, but would love to learn more if someone is willing to catch me up
@jesusredeemedme2425 gold rush?!?!??! Any good rush is worth it 🤑🤑🤑
@Tinywhisper11 any gold* rush
Should firefighters and police be considered part of the military?
@jesusredeemedme2425 nope. Their jobs are different in nature. Maybe they are having a similar role of protection and hard physical training, but being in the military is basically surrendering your free will and entire life to the best interest of the state, resulting in a very limited freedom. They operate on a hierarchy of command that is much less flexible then police or firefighters. The main issue is the limited freedom and complete surrender to the state. The job of firefighters and police doesn't require it, we should not tie down people who don't need to be tied down
@sadcat13 yes, what cat said💖💖💖
@Tinywhisper11
Should sign language be a required class in schools?
@jesusredeemedme2425 to anyone who says yes: what about braille?
Personally, i think it should be an option, but not compulsary. Like an extracurricular for those that have the time and are interested
@unassumingEyes the difference between braille and sign language is the way the people communicate.
- blind people can speak and hear perfectly fine
- Braille is mainly used for them to navigate the world when alone, and most of the materials they need are already prepped. So if you get a blond person in a restaurant, you should already have the braille menu. (If you dont, that's an entirely different problem)
- so braille is not really their mean of most efficient communication with you, and you not knowing braille doesn't at all affect the quality of your conversation
- meanwhile being deaf, you are completely cut from most of conversation and communication, unless you have a piece of paper and pen nearby, and even then, due to the complicatedness of having a basically irl texting talk, you won't have a deep conversation at all, the entire thing being reduced to a few basic words and gestures
@sadcat13 good points
@unassumingEyes thank you 😊 I enjoy debating these points. I also see this at my work. I served both blind and deaf customers before and the difference is huge. I can communicate perfectly well with the blind person, make sure to describe things for them. But for people who are deaf, I can't do anything. We can't interact because I never had an opportunity to learn sign language. I probably should, but currently need to learn polish so I will be able to move to my boyfriend soon. So most of our communications is done through gestures, small words scribbled on paper and ending in not being able to properly assist them. So really, I wish there was a sign language in some class.
@jesusredeemedme2425 I think it would be a very cool class to take.
It really is! I took two classes myself <3
@jesusredeemedme2425 how did it go?
@jesusredeemedme2425 yes, yes, yes yes
Can mental illness be cured?
@jesusredeemedme2425
I'm going to play the devil's advocate here and say no. At least not entirely. It can be managed well or in a remission (time when you don't experience symptoms), but the thing is. For things like depression and stuff that is more of acquired then born, once you have the neural pathways, they will never go away. They may not be used for a while, but you will always be at risk of it coming back up, and much faster than you got it the very first time, if something triggers you and you are not careful.
(Source: Trigger warning: self deletion mention ahead, skip this paragraph if this topic is a nope for you - been pushed to the brink of doing the thing mentioned, with little to no control over my own body and brain in the past. I'm okay now, but the slippery slope is there. One thought can very easily lead to another, and immediately has to be shut down, because entertaining it has a history of reactivating the pathways, and much much quicker than it built up the first time)
As for the more born or genetic stuff, that will always be there too, since it always has been. But you can learn or figure out systems and strategies that help you build healthier habits and overcome your challenges. And that's okay. It doesn't mean your life will be bad. It just means you do some things in a bit different way, that suits you and your needs more
@sadcat13 I'm glad your not in that place anymore, and that your hear with us 💖 I love you
@Tinywhisper11 thank you 😊 I´m doing great now, at least compared to what used to be, but i need to be careful with thoughts.
@sadcat13 💖 yes and always remember I love you, and I'm here for you always💖
@Tinywhisper11 thank you 💖
@jesusredeemedme2425 it can be sleeping sometimes, it can be easier sometimes, it can give us breaks, but it can also rear it's ugly head and take control whenever it likes😕 but we can learn to live alongside it🙂 but my answer is no
@Tinywhisper11 we are some real doomers lol

@sadcat13 😂😂😂
What do you think is outside the known universe?
@jesusredeemedme2425 it's a mystery, but a great mystery😁 it's fun to not know sometimes, and just let our imaginations run wild with theories💖💖
@Tinywhisper11 maybe they have ice cream over there
@jesusredeemedme2425
Blancmange, lots and lots of blancmange. An ever expanding infinity of mildly flavoured dessert!
@jesusredeemedme2425
If it is not just more of the same, then I think there lies an endless sea of time and reason. I have so much trouble thinking how there could be nothingness.
Should the required books (“The Iliad”, Shakespeare, and other books) in a lot of schools, still be required? Should specific books be required at all? If not, why? If so, which ones should kids be required to read?
@jesusredeemedme2425 we dont have those required at school level (only for those doing ba english) so...
What we have is chapters from different books and short stories and poems from different poets. No one book to go through. I think thats a pretty okay system?
I was homeschooled, so I don’t know this from experience.
How does that work?
@jesusredeemedme2425 first of all, how are you typing at the speed of light???
We hv three textbooks for english each year in highschool. One is a book of short stories and chapters from books or a shortened version of a book (that always annoys me, ruins the book...)
The 2nd book is of poems by diff poets and plays (so, i guess, a shakespeare play could be here, but we dont have any)
And the 3rd is just essays and stuff
No reading the whole Iliad or anything. There are reading clubs for those interested in really good highschools 😀
@jesusredeemedme2425 required reading is there for a reason, it is usually books that have a significant value or importance. Reading them is building cultural knowledge and understanding, and as much as you will always enjoy some books more than others, it's important to know about them.
Who leads the better life: people with access to technology, or people without?
@jesusredeemedme2425 i think a good life does not depend on whether or not you have technology. Neither ways of living guarantee anything 🤷🏻♀️
(im having way too much fun in this thread xD)
@unassumingEyes well said💖 I agree
@jesusredeemedme2425 as someone who grew up almost completely without technology like smartphones until being like 14, I can not stress enough how much happier I was and how much better our life was at home. We had attention span, energy, lot of bonding and fun and weren't phone zombies. I wish that time back a lot sometimes
This ^^^
@jesusredeemedme2425 pretty much 😂
Does color affect mental health?
@jesusredeemedme2425 coulor??? I don't think so
@jesusredeemedme2425 sort of. But I believe it´s much more complicated. While colours do influence our feelings at the moment, it´s long term mental health effects are a little harder to estabilish.
Basically, it depends on:
- how much exposure to the thing or room you have - if you just stop by a coffee shop with atrocious wall colours, it may affect you in the moment, but it will go away as you go on with your day. But if you had to have the same horrible colour on your bedroom ceiling or wall, you would feel the negative feelings a lot more often and regularly, that could completely influence your mental health.
- what are you at the place for - obviously, if you go to a doctors office, most of us would prefer it not being in the shades of red, but rather calming neutral or bluish/greenish tones. But a sad beige kids playhouse or circus would be incredibly depressing
- what are your colour associations - some people couldn´t wear black a lot, because they would feel it´s depressing and making them feel bad. Others have very positive associations with it, find it beautiful or use it as a form of self expression. So both groups will be affected differently by having to wear all black outfits for a month. Same goes for decor and other things. Do you like the colour? Or does it remind you of something unpleasant?
- what are you in need of right now - sometimes, we need some calm neutrals to bring us comfort. Other times we want excitement and happy vibes in orange, red and yellow, or need to calm a little with blue and green
So would say while colours do affect momentary feelings, consistent exposure is required to have a more significant effect on the overall mental health.
What’s one single change that would improve the world the most significantly?
@jesusredeemedme2425 equal distribution of resources? Or better, fair distribution? I mean...everyone should have food, water, electricity....bare minimum. Thatll solve...a good chunk of everything, i think?
Tw
Id say all bombs disappear and people be unable to make more, but people find other days to cause mass destruction (see...any history-) 😬
@jesusredeemedme2425 respect for human life being everyone´s core value. No wars, starvation or most of problems if we all respect each other as long as noone is being hurt.
At what age should kids be considered adults?
@jesusredeemedme2425 i think 19 is pretty good
(No i will not elaborate :p )
@jesusredeemedme2425 i think 19 is pretty good
(No i will not elaborate :p )
Noted. You are 19. ;)
@jesusredeemedme2425 i am not xD
@unassumingEyes 😂😂😂😂😂
@jesusredeemedme2425 that's a hard one but 18 is a good age I think💖
@jesusredeemedme2425 i think people should redefine how we see teenagers. While they are still kids in some sense, they should be encouraged to have agency, build independence and life skills, so they can be ready to be adults once they reach 18. Sure, they still won´t be completely mature. But they would be capable enough to fall on all 4 and figure it out. I am one of those unlucky ones who were (and still are) pushed into a role of a child, being overly sheltered. While I understand it is not done with bad intentions, it hurt me horribly and is one of the main reasons i´m so behind in life. Will definitely encourage my kids to be competent and independent in an age appropriate level so they don´t experience this too
@jesusredeemedme2425
I'd say 131, but with the caveat that adulthood should be voluntary, not compulsory.
