So the thing that made me smile today would have made most people cry but I saw the positive side of it.
See, today I was meant to hand up a project, a simulation, and it was created in this software. I knew that I was good at it as I knew what was meant to be done, though the project seemed to have added a layer of complexity to the basics and I was freaking out over it. To make it worse I was doing it the very day before the deadline and I was panicking over the time constrain. I had a week to complete this project, a reasonable enough time, but I had a lot of stuff that was occupying my mind and before I knew it, I completely forgot about my work. I managed to get my basics down but the complex layer was just a tricky bit, and I knew the fundamentals, but strangely I realized I couldn't do it. The software said that I was inputting the wrong configurations and the link between the devices in the simulation was not establish. And I started doubting myself, I began to believe that I was not good enough. What are simple tests against the project?
Earlier today, I had to pass up the simulation via email. After the sending the simulation, we had to modify it and also show that the simulation worked. Of course mine didn't work, but when I was trying to modify and simulate it, it was when I noticed my mistake. I had keyed in the correct configurations but at the wrong device, hence the simulation didn't work at all. It was at that moment that I remembered my tutor once said, "Someone who is good can spot others mistake, but someone who is better can spot their own." And that is when I realized that I really was good at what I did, the marks I got for my tests weren't a lie. The real problem I had was that I was too preoccupied, too stressed out and that affected my project.
I learnt that, it might not sound really painful or impactful, but it was at that time. So many things were going on in my life, and the deadline for my project wasn't helping me. It only stresses me further, thus I couldn't really focus on my project. I really believed that I was not good enough and was a disappointment only to realized that I wasn't. All I was, was just a stressed kid who needs a break once a while.
I just realized I forgot to add it the fact that I actually failed that project and I was the only one in my class that failed. It is most probably the reason why people would have cried.
I think I may have made my classmates and lecturer concern about my behaviour, because I was smiling as if I didn't failed but passed.
Sure I still failed, because I made a careless mistake, but I had the knowledge and skill.
