What's your Unpopular Opinion

I don't think there's anything we should or shouldn't do if it's not harming yourself or others. Like for example, even though it's a cultural norm to shave legs/armpits/etc, it's always irritated my skin and I found it pointless on a practical level.

I like to wear makeup sometimes, but I don't think not wearing it in a professional or formal setting should weaken your credibility.

I don't think it should be demonized to not want to follow a traditional path from k12--university--full time, in demand career.

I want to live outside of institutional means and still interact with it but only because I want to, not because I have to to survive.

I think that there isn't a god who leads our life path, it's destiny. And destiny is kind, because for every bad day you experience, you'll have a good day as well. For every bad person in your life, a good one will join your life. And if I'm having a bad time now, I just try to think that it'll pay off someday, and that keeps me going

Humour is Subjective

I think people should have the ability to joke about anything and no one has the right to tell someone what is and what isn't funny - because humour is subjective. What one person finds funny may not appeal to the next person, and that is okay. Humour has many purposes. It empowers people, helps people through adversity, sends a strong message, engages audiences with controversial topics, or provokes meaningful conversations.

If you find something humourless, you shouldn't censor it or tell other people that they cannot find it funny. Your sensitivity levels towards humour will be very different to those around you, and its important to understand that comedy shouldn't be taken as a personal attack. Keep in mind that there is a very big difference between Comedy and Bullying, or Comedy and Harrassing.

Some of my favourite comedians joke about very controversial ideas, but I enjoy it because there is always an element of truth and logical reasoning behind it.

I don't like cats OR dogs.

No really, this isn't a joke. I mean, they're great and everything. And I think puppies and kittens are wonderfully cute. The healing powers of an animal friend are something magical both mentally and physically, and I know that plenty of service dogs and house cats have saved their owners lives in one way or another. But ultimately when it comes down to it... I don't want to own either. I don't want either in my house. I don't want to clean up after or be responsible for either.

People will ALWAYS ask me, do you have pets? And I'll say no and they'll respond with "Aw, why not?" As if I were just Between Companions. As if I had recently experienced the loss of my favorite furball and just couldn't bear to have another right now. As if this were a normal, everyday thing to let animals have the run of my home. Why not? Plenty of reasons, mostly to do with poop. (More strongly to do with my fear of responsibility though, and the general idea that I ruin everything I touch, but that's another story.)

God forbid I don't like cats OR dogs though, because then they ask, "Well do you have BIRDS? FISH???"

No.

Nononono.

The Political Correctness Epidemic

A dangerous plague has devastated much of our world. The virus known as Political Correctness does not discriminate, it can and will infect anyone. There are many ways to identify someone with the virus. Political Correct victims often share the following signs and symptoms:

- Taking offense to the fact I consider Political Correctness as a disease

- Will continue to rant about various real illnesses and why its wrong to joke about illnesses whilst simultaneously completely missing the point of this article and ignoring the fact that this is a clear use of poetic devices (metaphors)

- Hyper sensitivity to taboo topics

- Aims to abolish the use of certain words

- Is repelled by Cards Against Humanity

- Strong Tumblr warriors

- Devoted Feminazis

- Will now get angry at the use of the word Feminazi when there is a clear difference between feminist and feminazi

- Believes in equality but will continue to bash a majority to raise up a minority

- Lacks sense of humor

- Will argue that certain jokes are not funny even though humor is subjective

- Assumes non-politically correct people are: Racists, Bigots, Rape apologists, Sexists, Oppressors

- Argues in the comment section of Youtube

- Has a shrine of Buzzfeed videos and articles

- Will also continue to state that they are not this or that whilst forgetting this is a list of symptoms and only the severe cases of Political Correctness will share all the symptoms

- Will take offense to this list

- Most likely will see me as an awful person

Before we get the crowd thirsty for my blood, lets take a moment to understand the difference between Political Correctness and Appropriate Language.

Political Correctness aims to limit the use of certain words and abolish certain attitudes. They view words are negative or positive mostly due to the connotations and history associated with it. Some of the topics Political Correct people are passionate about are: Crude Humor (Rape jokes, Racist Jokes etc.), Gender Identity and Sexuality, Feminism, Racism etc.

Although Political Correctness helps minorities and initially empowered people, it now restricts them and criminalizes certain words. They lack flexibility, and fail to look at the intention and situation behind statements. For example: the word Faggot is offensive, it is and always will be a gay slur and should not be used in any context. Calling someone a faggot is wrong and homophobic. Perhaps there is no justification for using the words - there is no absolute need for it. But there is no need to completely condemn the word either, especially when used in a situation where everyone is comfortable with that use of language. Words are completely neutral and they are only provided meaning from the intention it is used by. I can call my friend a string of slurs associated with being a prostitute (See what censorship and political correctness is doing to me - instead of saying a word I have to be fancy and vague) - however it does not mean I am degrading her. Instead we call each other these things with affection and endearment, and thats what makes our relationship just that extra special. We know we can say anything to each other and it will be okay. So what gives a third party the right to come in and tell us how we should talk to each other when there is no problem in the first place?

Another issue with political correctness is the fact that they fail to see the bigger picture. People will look at the use of a single word but will overlook the entire point being made. Politically Correct people are severely allergic to Comedy. Most successful comedians will use slurs, make taboo jokes, and discuss sensitive matters. However a lot of insightful or valid points are raised through the use of comedy. Ignorant people will look at the language used and fail to recognize the meaning behind it. Politically Correct people go the step further and condemn the person for it. It still shocks me to this day why people would be so offended by the way consensual parties talk to each other. You cannot decide what other people say, and you cannot survive in this world if you are so sensitive to simple words that are not even addressed to you. It is important to have some strength and look at things realistically. Blowing things out of proportion will not help anyone.

I could rant on and on about this - I feel like there isn't enough characters to explain the issue with politicial correctness, how restrictive it is and how it covers language with cotton candy to soften true intentions. So here's some videos that can help do the explaining:

Appropriate Language

Now lets talk about Appropriate Language. Different settings have a different set of rules. For example you cannot show up in flip flops and cargo shorts to a black tie event, and you should not be laughing or messing around at a funeral. Being edgy, rebellious or not sticking to the uniform behavior, is not considered "unique and different". It is rude, obnoxious and disrespectful. The same applies in conversation. There is a code of conduct that must be followed in certain circumstances.

To a homeless person you do not talk about your first world problems because that is not appropriate.

To a gay man who's recently come out, it is not appropriate to call him a faggot, because that is not acknowledging the sensitivity of the issue and is therefore not appropriate

To a person who just admitted to being a rape victim, you do not make rape jokes because that is blatantly diminishing a recent traumatic event and therefore not appropriate.

To yell and make sexual jokes in the middle of a meeting is disruptive, unprofessional and therefore not appropriate.

There is a time and place for it all, but certain situations call for social intelligence and appropriate conduct. Appropriate Language views words as neutral, and uses these words in negative or positive situations. Political Correctness overlooks the situation and sees words as negative or positive. Its important to have flexibility and understand that even the most craziest remarks can be used innocently without the need of a lecture. You can have your own set of standards about what you deem is acceptable for you to personally say. But it is not appropriate for you to constantly tell others what they can and cannot say. If what they are saying is appropriate to the situation, then you have very little right to tell them to talk any differently.

It's about acceptance, understanding, freedom and flexibility. Political Correctness has distracted us from issues that desperately need more attention and support.

My unpopular opinion is that you shouldnt have to suck it up with everything people tell you .. If you have something in mind say it in a respectful way but say it !

Being unrealistic. Is. Enjoyable.

And, being happy all the time. Isn't. Always. Fully. Fun.
