You finally got it! It was a bunch of bananas. I hid a yellow egg in the middle of them, and it took my roommate forever to find. The next year, I hid a yellow marshmallow peep in the bananas instead of one of the eggs.

this should be a big hint.. when (owner) is happy and empowered, the palace is blue; when (owner) is embracing herself, the palace is purple; when (owner) is fearful, the palace becomes red, and causes ice shards and cracks to appear throughout the wall (etc)
