Strange beliefs
What's the weirdest thing that you at least somewhat believe in?
For me, it's probably gnomes. You don't have to believe me, but I've seen them around 3am. My friend and I used to ride in the bed of my dad's truck while he threw papers for his paper route. It seemed to happen in the fog or mist. Just really small things running by, but there was definitely a triangle shape on top, like one of their hats.
I fully believe they have a really nice set up underground. They steal TV's and computers and random machines to take apart, and probably anything that's fun. I imagine it being like a big rec room/workshop/man cave sort of place.
Ghosts, eternity after life 😵💫
@freshman12 I find it hard not to believe in ghosts and the supernatural. To many people have spoke about having encounters with theese sort of things, they can't all be making it up. So I agree with you ❤
Every one here at the old folks nursing home tell me this place is haunted, but I've never seen a ghost and I've lived here for almost 300 years now 😂😂😂
Hahaha 😂😂😂😂. Well maybe your place is not really haunted but I think there are some places that's really haunted. I mean idk it's not like movies or anything. But I have also had experiences 😄 like idk if it was illusions or not. Anyway it's better not to believe.

I don't know if I've actually seen one, but I have definitely had some of the weirdest experiences. Believing is fun! 😁 Seeing? I'm not so sure yet.

I don't believe in ghosts, strictly speaking, but am definitely open to the idea of disembodied spirits & some kind of alternative plane/dimension/whatever. Said openmindedness is the result of an experience I had a few years ago. It was not pleasant but hey, at least I wasn't bored! 😆
I guess the supernaturals entertained you 😄. Of course you gotta be open minded to explore new things. Well I think It makes sense when you feel or see such things randomly just like you did. But not if you end up having an experience at a place that you already heard stories and myths about even before you have been there. Because your mind is capable of playing tricks on you like spotting illusions or so. When I say it's better not to believe, it means you shouldn't end up having haunting traumas and such about it later. But still what if there are real dimensional energies and we can't even spot them easily. Maybe they're souls of the dead that floats around for a while before going to the sky and they're harmless but spooky. Even I've heard about a murder case that couldn't be solved at first but some one who was a doctor reopened the file again and solved it with the help of the spirit of the murdered person itself. They did it with the help of an exorcist, religious person idek what they're called. However I do believe in afterlife, heaven and helll, what's more than that? Believing in ghosts is fun but it shouldn't traumatise you everywhere you go 😄. There's also fake and real informations out there. Who knows? What about aliens and UFOs? Are they real? Idk but why are they only being spotted around America? Maybe they're crafts made by elites for their own secret purposes because remember the largest man made class airship that got on fire? It was called hinderman, german made and were capable of carrying passengers as much as a cruise ship did. It looked like a gigantic surveillance balloon with just a tail and a fan on it's front no wings. So humans are already capable of building such crafts and we never know about it except for some people OR they're really aliens already in contact with them elites for their own secret planetary trading purposes 😄 alright I'm not gonna let this story go on and on .... xp lol

At the risk of being pedantic, the blimp was the Hindenburg...yeah, it blew up. Some kind of malfunction with the heating device below the balloon itself, if memory serves.

I don't think it's weird at all, ❤️ I kind of feel like intelligent design is really hard to deny. I also believe in evolution, and I strongly believe that both things are fully compatible, and people arguing them as opposing viewpoints has always been a little confusing to me. That all said, I'm not of the belief that we have fish or something as direct ancestors at some point. There's more to all of it, and some kind of intelligent design only makes sense to fill in those blanks. I just don't know what intelligent design really implies. I look at it from a lot of angles, and I'm ok with not knowing for now.

Creationism. The reason for dinosaur fossils is because they didn't get on the Ark & the great flood killed them all.
(j/k. I don't buy into it because I know too much about evolution. Creationism is pretty weird, though...especially in the 21st century)
What I do believe in is Murphy's Law. I've seen too many things go wrong in my life & in other's lives to doubt it. In my studies of history I've also read about too many screwups, in too many places & times, to not believe.
Actually I don't believe Murphy's Law exists--I know it exists. It exists in the way that laws of gravity, electromagnetism, heredity, etc. exist. It is not counted as a scientific law, but it d**n well should be.
Perhaps a more accurate way to describe Murphy's Law is as a blind tendency toward chaos. Consider that over time, entropy always increases within a closed system...perhaps that is the ultimate cause.
Let's put it this way: I don't believe in the creation story in Genesis. But if I did, I would say the serpent in the Garden of Eden was named Murphy. Adam & Eve were doing okay until Murphy came slithering along & talked to Eve. In that moment f***edup-ness was born into this world.

Tendency toward chaos is definitely a thing, and I think all of what you're saying should absolutely get some consideration in terms of scientific law. I mean, at the very least I don't feel like enough people are talking about it.
I don't believe in Bible stories as they are either. One of the biggest reasons I stopped being a Christian is because I actually put time into reading the Bible, and felt like I was seeing a lot of dysfunction, and didn't ever feel like God's character was consistent (or like he showed love). To you or anyone reading this, I'm not trying to trash the religion. It just ultimately made me feel like the Bible was really easy to weaponize. Made things a little too easy to justify for conquerors and dictators, etc. lots of tragedy has happened in God's name. Whether or not He exists, that's really sad.
The Bible has historical value as an artifact, & as an indication of how certain peoples thought & lived in particular regions & eras. It is not a report of specific events occurring in ancient Israel, Judah, Egypt or Rome. Treating the Bible as if it's an objective chronicle of reality is a mistake many religious people make, particularly fundamentalists. Very few writers of the scriptures wrote with the intent of reporting the news of their time...the only possible exceptions I know of are whoever wrote 1st & 2nd Kings, & both books of Chronicles. Even then, their viewpoints weren't even close to objective.
As for a supreme god, the only solid belief I have is if it* exists, then it is nothing like the deity portrayed in any edition of the Bible, or in the Qur'an. Surely, a being that runs the universe would never be so limited in time & place. Nor would it be particularly interested in what humans are up to.
*Why would God have a gender? The only reason for gender is if you're mortal & will die at some point, thus the need to reproduce. But God is supposed to be limitless & transcendent, by definition.

Anything that's not a historical account in there just makes the motives of writing it more worth analyzing.
It kinda would make sense what you say about what a creator would actually be like. I could say that by evidence all around us anyway, but your logic behind it is pretty sound.

My family is from Hawaii. I still believe in Madame Pele, the Goddess of Volcanoes and Fire. She created the islands and makes her home in Halemaumau Crater on The Big Island. She can take the guise of a child, a young woman or an old lady. So be careful driving down lonely roads at night and don't take lava rocks home without leaving an offering.

I want to read more about this, that sounds really cool. 😁 I bet there's a lot of truth to mythology stories like that. I believe in Thunderbird to some extent, that one's more local to me. I want it to be true.
@NotAllHere713 What kind of offering? As an agnostic, I'm not a believer in Pele but I do allow for the possibility. If I ever pick up a piece of obsidian or something from one of the islands, I'd like to know the proper procedure for making her happy.

I believe in entities, spirits, ghosts. Cause there are many times I would catch a glimpse that somebody is standing behind me at a certain place in our office, but when I look around nobody was there. I thought it was just my imagination till some co-workers of mine confirmed that they saw it too.

yes i will go first heres a less scary one, so when my papa (grandpa) died a hummingbird was right outside watching us and the next day a hummingbird flew into my bedroom window and i spent a few months nursing it back to health, i think he just wanted a few more months with me

Definitely interesting about the hummingbird story. I had something happen when my dad passed away. He kept going into sepsis in the hospital, and this was one day I hadn't visited him yet, and I knew that he didn't have long left despite his optimism. They called us saying that it might be time to come talk to him for the last time, and I think my aunt was the only one already there with him. I'd just gotten ready to go when an image kind of forced it's way into my mind... It wasn't like a normal thought, it definitely came from outside my mind, and it was just an image of him in a rowboat with someone, and he was laughing. I happened to be looking at the clock when it happened, and when I found out the pronounced time of death, it was the exact same minute.
After that, I know I posted this part somewhere just the other day, but it was Father's Day next year, and I didn't remember that it was. I went home late that night for some reason. I turned on the lights and I just knew it didn't seem normal. Walking toward the bedrooms, I could sense him. More than that, I could actually smell him. I just asked out loud "what are you doing here?" I kind of felt his presence leave pretty suddenly. It wasn't until later that I realized what day it was, and I know that offended him greatly. A little background though... He didn't even like to spend father's day with me unless we were seeing Grandpa too. He just expected a gift though, and he would act visibly disappointed in anything I got him, and the one year I tried to spend time with him and hadn't gotten him anything, he didn't talk to me for 2 weeks. So... It's not like I even wanted to remember father's day exactly. 😅. That said he wasn't all bad... Just in ways like that.

when i was young like six i was in my backyard and i saw an elk, it was already weird because i lived near seattle like right next to the city and it was strange for there to be any elk, i called my mom out and we just looked at it for a while it wouldnt move for like ten minutes. I went back inside for a minute and when i came back instead of a elk being there a random dog was sitting in the same place that elk was before my gut was screaming to me and i ran back inside

I haven't usually seen the things I've been haunted by, but there was one thing that was really weird. I was walking in my backyard at night when I was a teenager or so, and I was looking at the moon over the fence as I passed. For a moment, it looked distorted, so I took a step back, and it still was. In the moonlight, trying to figure out what was blocking my view, I saw a head turn to face me. It looked like a humanoid figure, sitting on the fence, almost invisible. As soon as it saw me, it jumped down the other side and ran somewhere. I ran back in, and I was thinking to myself that it had to be my eyes playing tricks on me, but then I remembered... When it jumped down and ran, I heard it also, just as if I was hearing a person do that.

Also, his room was haunted, both before and after he passed. But after he did, I was sleeping in that room for a time. One night, something creepy happened.
You ever have a dream where you can't breathe, but it's because you're face down in the pillow? Well, it's happened to me... But wasn't the case this time. I dreamed I was looking at this underwater quarry that people were working in with diving suits, and thought Id get a suit before exploring it... But when I was trying to swim up, the surface was way higher than it was when I dived down, and I was desperately trying to swim up, but I couldn't quite make it to the surface, my hands almost getting back to air. I woke up gasping for breath, and I'd been sleeping face up, but the really creepy part is that I also woke up pointing at an upper corner of the room, my arm and finger fully extended. Nothing was there, but I felt an evil feeling that I can't describe.

@Torean I have been having out of body experiences and it's really freaked me out. I had several visitations from my father who passed away in 2006. Since these OBE have happened, I have been reading book after book of stories of people who had Near Death Experiences. I never can explain what the OBE felt like until I read these books and I understand how those people feel because I have felt those exact feelings. At first, I thought I was crazy until I read the books. Sometimes I still feel crazy when it happens. So, that's my answer to your question. :)

That definitely makes sense. I think I've only had one OBE, but it might have just been my imagination on that one. I have, however, been visited by my late father. It was Father's Day the year after he died, and I didn't remember father's day because I'd just put it out of mind. As soon as I got home, I could sense him. It wasn't just a psychic thing either, I could smell him as weird as that sounds. I was like, "what are you doing here?" And then he was gone. I realized later what day it was. I don't think he'll ever get over that. 😅
