Dealing with being a housewife for the first time
Hello, I recently moved to another country with my husband and after working full time for the past 5 years, I am being "forced" (by the circumstances, not my husband!) to be a housewife. I am having a lot of problems with coping with this and I am afraid of falling into depression again (it happened when I was in middle and high school). I need help to find a way to understand and accept my new life, and would appreciate having someone who can guide me through this.
I don't have a preference, as long as you have some bit of experience dealing with this (you can be the spouse who works or the one who stays at home).
Thank you for your time,
My body forced me into it. I've found it to be really helpful to get out even though it can be a struggle for me to do so. Running errands, workshops, meetups, getting together with friends if they are free.
The other was having a hobby - I've done some volunteering stuff online and also garden.
If I were in a new location, I would seek out things to do. Sometimes there are groups for newcomers. If there was a language difference I would be learning the language or if I already spoke it but wasn't familiar with regional terms/slang I would like to find a group to go out with locals in a social way if they were open to helping me out.
Hi, @MangoSquare! I was sitting here eating lunch, bored, and decided just to see what is happening on the site. I didn't have plans to start a new chat, but then I saw your post! There was a time when I, too, was forced by circumstances to be the housewife. Then, recently, my health forced me to decide whether I wanted to stay home again or change careers. I know transitions are really rough sometimes, and the choices that have to made as a result are often harder to deal with than the transition itself.
Also, my son and nephew (who we raised) were in the military. I know that moving to a foreign country can be very intimidating and lonely. While I don't know your full circumstances, I do understand a little of what you are going through! If I can help, please feel free to let me know! In the meantime, best wishes for a wonderful day! ~~KimT1234

Hi, @MangoSquare
I am about to embark on a journey very similar to your own and am also having a hard time. In fact, that is how I became a listener here at 7 cups! Unfortunately, I won't offer to become your listener because I think that I would too emotionally involved with the situation, but for me, it always encouraging to hear about other people in the same boat.
