PTSD + POTS = relationship advice ??
Hey
So my long distance boyfriend is considering visiting for my birthday in a couple of months, however there is one thing that is holding both of us back.
you see 7 years ago i was raped, i was only 13 and i was raped at least 3 times by a stranger i had met at the library. This man had lied to me that he was 17, when in actuality he must have been not less than 27 due to public record searches. This man stayed in my life for 5 years in an off and on again relationship, 2 years in person, 3 years online. He there emotionally abused and manipulated me into thinking that i was worthless and that no man could ever love me. This trauma still effects my ability to trust and my relationships with men.
Since, leaving my rapist 2 years ago, I have tried in vain to have relationships with other men. My most recent date was left stunned in the middle of the movie theater when i ran home crying and screaming because i was severly triggered after my date had kissed me. I also cant be approached from behind, without jumping out of my skin, nor can i be touched on my stomach or thigh without unvolentary gaurding. thats why when i realized that i had feelings for someone who lived miles and miles away, i was estatic... as by then most of my triggers that remained were physical ones.
My boyfriend has heard me durring one of my flashbacks, most notably when i got a pelvic exam done or on valentines day, when i realized that my rapist hadnt meerly asulted me but penetrated me. 6 months of dating we have gotten really close and i am excited to meet him. he is one of the most supportive men i have ever met and i know that he has my back.
But we are both concerned about him trigering me. he even said to me that if he were to visit and i were to get triggered for the rest of the trip he would be afraid to touch me, for fear of upseting me. I too recognize this as a posibility but am also overthrilled with the idea of having him hold me in his arms, snuggleing next to him, and kissing him.
We are looking for ways to help me better cope with what happened to me so that i dont have a flashback and can grow past this and advice would be greately appreciated as we want to make the best out of his trip.
thanks

Hey there, I know it's been about a year but wanted to check in. How did the visit go? Have you learned anything in the past year? Are there any questions you have that we can help answer?
