I haven't seen one of these around so thought I'd post one and start it off with:

Allow members to mute listeners.

Hey @Dallady, what do you mean by "mute listeners" here?

There is a site updates community, where everyone can provide feedback as well.

Although a better way to provide feedback, along with more details, is mentioned in this post.

The image is so cool, love it.❤

I simply mean if a listener is triggering a member or traumatizing them then the member could mute them.

This protects the member and allows them to process what happened without further danger of hurt.

We can't tell how someone is going to fit with another on a 1-1 and how one might actually respond or react.

Allowing a member to have some control over their experience will increase their confidence and safety levels.

Preventing a member from being hurt is important. Many here spoke of having no control. Doesn't bode well.

If someone doesn't feel a sense of control over how they're going to heal, that's going to effect things.

And if they have been through trauma where speaking up for themselves caused great harm well then...

They're not going to feel very safe leaving feedback or speaking up for themselves or communicating what's happening.

In these cases providing a mute button will create a buffer around the situation, allowing the person time.

A listener or anyone is smart enough to understand that such situations aren't a personal attack but necessary.

Does that answer your question? Does it make sense now what I mean by a 'mute' button for the members?

@Dallady

Yes it definitely answers my question, thanks for explaining. Your kind intent is greatly appreciated, and I see how certain situations can arise at times where such a tool could be used.

If anything a listener says that comes across as triggering or traumatizing in anyway, it is okay for the member to let them know, and ask to refrain from that topic or question, or help with grounding the member, when needed.

Members can always choose to state to the listener, that they don't wish to chat further at a given point, if they need time off for self care, or similar, and simply not reply further here. There's also a (x) to hide the current chats in the chat-list, if need to, and they can always come back at a later time and day to continue, if they like/ want to.

All of the above should definitely be understood and acknowledged by the listeners, it is good to set boundaries and hold space when needed, we all gotta be respectful of the same, and be compassionate about for sure. ❤

In the very unfortunate situation, the listener isn't being respectful, or ending chats isn't helpful and the listener is violating any guidelines, member can ofcourse block and report them. Also helpful to take screenshots in such situations, and report to the community address as well, so the admin team is aware also, and can take necessary actions. (community@7cups.com)

It is indeed important to safeguard one's emotional wellbeing.

You can certainly pass the suggestion for this option, to the community team, using the form I shared in the previous post.

I'm confused.

On one hand I'm hearing you say I answered the question and on the other you simply reiterated the already available features when that's not part of the conversation.

As I mentioned some people don't have the ability to simply block or report someone due to their trauma or limitations, which I am upset to have to be explaining again.

This is why I'm suggesting a mute button to give the member an optional and interim safe space to process what happened.

It is just a suggestion borne from seeing how people have been affected and effected by life, listeners and more. No worries if it doesn't make sense - I'm sure there's good reason for why my suggestion isn't valid, even if I can't understand it now.

@Dallady I'm really sorry if it came across confusing.

I did try reiterating the available options to be able to use till the time your suggestion gets heard and implemented, as it can sometimes take time here to implement technological-suggestions, wouldn't want you or anyone feeling triggered, and confused on handling such situations meanwhile, specially when seeking support. :(

I do hear about the limitations, yes and it does make sense also, which is why I offered to use the suggestion form again, if not already, so your suggestion and idea is put across and something positive comes out of it, that helps you and anyone else needing such a tool also.

There is an option to block. Just click on the three dots.

As I mentioned in my answer earlier, some people may want a less extreme solution to processing something.

Does that make sense?

What's the difference between muting and blocking? Pretty much the same thing, isn't it?

Blocking has to do when someone else is doing something inappropriate or unprofessionally and muting a temporary measure to give one space from someone for their own wellbeing.

Muting could also be a longer term solution for members who find they simply aren't a good fit for a listener and give themselves that measure of control in their healing.
