A Deep Thought...

Today I got an interesting comment from a new coworker that broke me a little... but kinda in a good way.

He suddenly quit today, not for a bad reason, but because he was overcommitting himself and not getting enough sleep. Because I got so little notice, I couldn't do my usual sendoff, but cobbled together something small (a card from me, plus a card that I had a few coworkers sign). It wasn't as much as I usually do, but it was a decent amount.

My coworker said to me, "You gave me a better sendoff than my parents gave me when I moved out here."

It was bittersweet... Sad because his parents treated him that way, and my tiny, barely sufficient (to me) act was better.

But also... Do I really come across like that? I always feel like I never do enough (which I know deep down isn't true). Are my tiny acts impactful to others, even when I feel like I haven't done enough?

@jesusredeemedme2425 What you did was really thoughtful, even if it felt small to you. Sometimes it’s those little things that mean the most to others and your coworker’s comment shows that.

It’s easy to feel like we’re not doing enough but the truth is your kindness and effort really do make a difference, even if it’s not always obvious.

Keep being your wonderful self!💛

I moved across a whole ocean to a different continent, and I didn't get any send off from my parents. They were so caught up in drinking. I longed for even a nice dinner with them, even just some acknowledgment over tea or coffee that I was going to be leaving soon - other than business-as-usual behaviour. Something. Anything

I got nothing.

To be given even a card by co-workers would speak volumes to me. Your co-worker sounds the same and I vibe deeply. To someone who's starved of acts of kindness - starved from having birthday parties, gifts, things most people consider normal - something as simple as a piece of paper with names written on it can move them because it shows you actually thought about them. Actually made an effort, as small as it may be in your eyes.

Keep doing what you're doing. It truly can move people deeply if they have a background similar to mine and your co-workers.

@jesusredeemedme2425

Tiny acts are sometimes the most impactful, especially when you care like that.  I think it all means much more than you realize!
