Am I overreacting?

You can call me Kay, I'm 17 and in a relationship with my boyfriend J, 17, for almost 2 years now. Since Halloween is not too far awsy I have been thinking about couples costumes. I am a bit upset because earlier in the year I went to the movies with J and one of his friend L, 18. L wants to do a matching costume with J but I feel like that's a little strange since he also has a girlfriend who he can go out with dressed alike.

Am I over reacting for thinking J and L doing a couples costume is weird and that I should do one with my boyfriend J instead?

(Context: L likes to show up randomly and take J away from me when we plan on hanging out. They work together and I don't get to spend much time with my bf since we have different school schedules and work)

Someone help me, am I over reacting?

@Green0verthinker7. Hi Kay 🌸, I’m Alfred, one of the listeners here. Thank you for sharing. 💛 It’s totally okay to want that special connection with J. Wanting to share a couples costume with him makes sense—you’re not overreacting. 🌿

Hi Kay, thanks for sharing how you’re feeling. It makes sense that this situation feels uncomfortable—wanting to do a couples costume with your boyfriend isn’t overreacting, it’s a normal desire to share something special with him. If you’d like to talk it through in more depth, you could also connect with a listener here on 7 Cups. Sometimes having a safe space to sort through feelings can help you figure out how you want to express them to J.
