Books About Talking Animals

I’m reading this obscure book about talking animals that like no one has ever heard of.
And I feel silly for reading it.
Like, I’m an adult. Shouldn’t I be reading more mature books?
It wasn’t like a Narnia type book. It was less “cool” and serious, but still intriguing.
And yet… it keep me interested and engaged. It was well written.
It especially distracted me during a short phase where… it sounded like I wasn’t safe (but I was), if you catch my drift.
Should I feel guilty or silly for reading it?
Also… drop your fave “talking animal” books here! I love Journey Beyond the Burrow, and The Barren Ground. <3

This one is from 1954, we had to red it in junior school and watch the movie.

@braindamag3 oh the time i tried reading animal farm online but accidentally found the text of 1984 and thought that´s just the date the book was published and ended up calling my mom´s cousin who is a literature teacher to ask where are the animals because this version i found online has no animals so far 😂

@jesusredeemedme2425 I think books intended for younger target audiences or even with themes adults feel are not suitable can be even more positive to read, to be honest. I feel like there's a pressure to adapt to the expected normalcies that each age brings, but why not read a book with talking animals in it? Why not absorb themes that children are taught about morality, such as the value of kindness? I think as we become adults, we forget that some base things we learned as children, we take with us for the rest of our lives.
@jesusredeemedme2425 you have every right to enjoy anything you want. If it´s this type of books, go ahead! We all enjoy different things, and that´s okay. That´s what makes the world such a cool place. Just look at what happened when booktok got the brainrot. Everyone is reading the same stuff that is often complete and utter garbage and individual taste is a thing a lot of people lost in all the noise. You enjoy the books you do for a reason, so don´t punish yourself for it.
Also, you never know when your interest will be a strength. Maybe you will end up working in a bookstore or a library some day, or even become the go to for good recommendations for those who know you and want to buy someone a great storybook. You never know.
My favourite was a book about a cat and a dog, who were experiencing various adventures together. The most memorable short story from the book was them trying to bake a cake and ending putting completely everything into it, making a disaster lol

I repeatedly revisit the Redwall series of books by Brian Jacques, all about anthropomorphised animals.
Nothing silly about taking pleasure in reading. Fill your boots, savour the creativity, and let your imagination soar!

No! If you enjoy the book then its a good book. You shouldn't feel shame or guilt for something you enjoy.
I don't really have a favorite talking animal book but the closest I have is Fruits Basket. I watched the show a million times, I've read the Manga a million times.
Why am I always reading about talking mice??? First Journey Beyond the Burrow, then Mousenet, and now Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. Why is this a theme in my life lately lol
