I guess I wanted to vent about this to some extent, but I've been so stressed and down trying to take a particular subject that I am struggling with. I studied, took time out of my day to do my best and I still managed to fail one of my exams, after having an A in the class previously.

The content goes so fast that I feel like I barely have time to properly retain the information, and I don't know if I can even do it. It's the combination of it being such a mass amount of work every week between trying to juggle this and 3 other classes that has me stressed on the daily.

It doesn't help that my precalculus teacher doesn't speak English very well, leading to not being able to truly understand the material. Exams are so weird, being only nine questions yet covering weeks and weeks of material.

I've always been a B - A student, I hate failing. I can't fathom the thought of failing a class. I just had to get out my thoughts.

@UnsungTangerine College can be quite challenging. It is a transition after school and getting used to new obligations and more challenging learning techniques can take time and effort. The best thing to do is try to organize things and don't forget to appreciate yourself as this is the only way to maintain your motivation! One step at a time. No grade is a failure. Staying consistent and appreciating yourself is the key! And always try to compete your own self only. I strongly believe you'll make it and we're here for you to support you! Thank you for opening up and for sharing your challenges in college!

@UnsungTangerine

I can feel a glimpse of your anxiety and stress just by reading your predicament. They say college isn't really college until you get that first class that seems to really do you over. Keep your head up! I like to say what helped me was that I realized by graduation that "one hard class" was only one out of many. It may be stressful but once you're able to develop a routine and find some headway I'm sure you'll do well. Keep in mind, mistakes are all part of the experience as well, the important part is not let it drag us down moving forward and instead propel us to excel further whether it be working hard putting extra time into reviewing material or trying a completely different studying technique than before

@UnsungTangerine Hi. I was so freaked out about calculus that after getting an A- I felt I didn’t understand it enough to go to the next level of calculus. So I took it again the following semester and got a B-. I really spent a lot of time studying the fundamental theorem of calculus. I got it intuitively, but I wanted to understand the proof - dispute never having taken something like geometry in high school where you can really get into proofs. I also struggled with physics, so I had a tutor and he was like, “you know, you understand this better than a lot of other students I tutor.” I think I just put so much pressure on myself that I was somehow undermining my own efforts. College is hard, no doubt about it - so much information like trying to take a sip from a firehose, and lots of pressure. I just wonder if you’re maybe working against yourself like I did.

— All the best

@UnsungTangerine Honestly same. Im trying to juggle 5 classes right now. But you should change the teacher before the deadline of no schedule changes, also try to remove a class if your full/part time allows it. Also try to take other student's notes and let them explain to you if you can't understand the teacher or use office hours or find a tutor, don't underestimate how helpful they are. Once I took a writing class with a boring teacher that made me sleep the whole time, he also didn't explain things well, i changed the class and I got an A! Also when it comes to retaining information, try recording the teacher. I personally relate to not liking teachers that talk fast
