Dealing with myself

How do you get a hold of yourself when you’re in a spiral. Self harm helped me but i’ve been clean for years and rn i just let it pass on its own but it takes up whole of my days. How do i stop catastrophizing. And not just 5 things i can see 4 things i can touch. I want something that actually works instantaneously like self harm did. I’ve tried meditating and exercising but its not enough. Its like i have three voices in my head. One in favour one against and one just standing there trying to negotiate. Its *** living in a brain like this. I can’t function

@understandingLand5580 aww sweetie I'm sorry your struggling lately 🙁 a spiral is extremely hard to get out of bless you 🙁 I guess what helps me the most is venting, listening to constant music, trying to do little things that make me smile, like watching the sunrise  and expressing myself through art or poetry💖 gives you a giant tiny hug 💗 I hope you start feeling better soon 💗

Sorry to hear it's been such a challenge. What I've found helpful is to PHYSICALLY ground yourself instead of trying to mentally ground yourself. Sometimes that 5-4-3-2-1 method doesn't work very well when you're not physically there yet.

Here are a few methods you could do:

  • Holding an ice cube in your hand, or putting it in your mouth. Enjoying a popsicle has a similar effect.
  • Chew gum with a strong flavour, like mint or cinnamon.
  • Take a very hot/very cold shower.
  • Smell something strong, like a scented lotion or essential oil.
  • Apply lotion to your body in places where you would want to harm.

The logic behind this is that it provides physical sensations like self-harm does, except for the fact that it doesn't harm. Hope this helps provide more instantaneous relief!

@understandingLand5580 Im.so sorry you feel like this, you have been through alot 💜 What works for me is:

Music first and foremost.

Exercise.

Fresh air

Boxing, getting it out physically, have also been known to smash a few plates 😁💜
