Dear dad. ...

This has been on my chest for a long time. I’ve carried it quietly, but it’s been heavy.

I don’t think you really understand what it felt like to grow up as a little girl… without her real dad.
Yes, someone was there. I had a father figure. But not you. Not the person I was supposed to have.

And the thing is, deep down, I always knew. I always felt something wasn’t right.
You were lying — and I felt it, even if I didn’t have the words for it yet.
My mom didn’t lie to me. She wouldn’t just randomly tell me things to make me hate you.
She wouldn’t cut someone out of her life for no reason.

She protected me. She did what she had to do.
She was the one who stayed.
She showed up. She dried my tears.
She gave me the love, care, and comfort I needed… the things I should’ve gotten from both parents.

I don’t think you understand the ache of wondering why your own dad isn’t around.
Why he doesn’t call. Why he disappears.
I don’t think you get the confusion, the sadness, the anger that builds up over the years.
All the times I wanted to ask, "Why wasn’t I worth the truth? Why wasn’t I worth staying for?"

It hurts. It still hurts.
And I’m not saying all of this to attack you. I just need you to know.
Because pretending like none of this happened, or like it wasn’t that bad, doesn’t help me heal.

I deserved better.
I still do.

Experiencing a father’s departure is an immensely challenging journey. A little insight about this piece: I mustered the courage to send it to my dad, revealing the deep emotions I've been carrying. Growing up without a father figure can leave a significant void in one’s life, filled with unanswered questions and a longing for connection. I truly empathize with anyone who has faced a similar situation; it can be profoundly painful. ❣

@Thatonerandomgirl99 I was wondering something exactly like this yesterday. My father hasn't been around for a long time, since I was 4 more or less and I'm 17 now. It really does hurt doesn't it? I do have to say that it has nothing to do with your worth, everything to do with his. You are loveable, he just isn't a good father. <3

I'm truly sorry to hear that you had to experience this,  love. The absence of a father can leave such a deep and painful void in one's life. It's heartbreaking to think about the moments that should have been shared and the support that was meant to be there. I hope you know that it’s okay to feel this way, and you’re not alone in your feelings. Remember to take care of yourself.
