Depressed mom

I was 21 when I gave birth to my now 6 year old son. He is special needs. I love him to death. I feel so guilty and everything for getting irritated with him over things and then I lose my patience. My own mom tells me what a horrible mom I am. He wasn't planned but that doesn't mean I don't love him. My relationship didn't work out after I got pregnant. I've been judged by my own family, my mom constantly tells me how she wishes I never have anymore kids because I lose my patience and yell at him. I myself struggle with ADD and he has ADHD. I also work in childcare. I'm feeling burnt out and I'm just feeling so depressed and everything. I find having a dating life very difficult because my family says I'm a single mom so I shouldn't be dating and that I need to make my son my priority and I do that. I rarely go out. I feel like I need adult interaction that I rarely get. I feel so worn down and less then. Idk what to do.

@hrose7896

Being a single mom is a hard thing and when a child has special needs sounds exhausting.

i too had a critical mother and frankly her approach of being negative and seemingly wanting to say i told you so type thing is unhelpful and not what you need in your life.  have you had a talk with her even if it is in a letter ect that says something like  "I am  living my life and with my decisions and her second guessing and refusal to support you unconditionally shows how well her skills as a mother are. "

you do need adult friends and an outlet... are there groups you can find with other single parents maybe other with special needs kids as well ?

you can have some interaction. and support from those who can understand.. i can imagine dating is also hard as any potential date would need to accept your child too .

My son and I go to church every Sunday. Tonight I'm going to young adult Bible study. I've only been one time. But a few girls I work with know I need adult interaction and everything and asked me to go with them. So that's a start

You really have struggled alot with your relationships there is no term as bad mother every mother who delivers her first child is always learning from her experiences feeling burnt out in this whole procedure is very obvious. But I really appreciate your efforts that you are trying to improvise yourself spending time with child and giving him priority is important I do agree with that but on what cost are you doing that you are draining your self up till the last extent and what if something happens to you who will take care of your child then so giving priority to your child is important but in the whole process don't ignore your emotions don't ignore yourself you have to be mentally fit and stable in order to help your child to cope with his ADHD being Burt out your self will make your scream on your child and that really will not help you and your child so take care of yourself as well and never ignore yourself your body needs rest from all these things give yourself some time and figure out how to go ahead in life without being Burt out. All the best I'm sure if you can manage till now I know you will be successful in your future journey as well take care
