Hello everyone,

I am new to 7 cups but I am already so grateful to the community's presence and over all purpose. I wish I knew about this app before!

Long story short, my friends don't really like my now-fiance. I have been friends with these girls since high school and 3 of them are actually part of a family. I have been with my fiance for 10 years now and I love him, he treats me well and really cares for me. There are a couple of reasons why they don't particularly like him the main one I can gather would be that he's a bit straightforward, blunt, sarcastic at times when he talks. If he's passionate about a topic, he'll get into a debate and he'll disagree and he'll vocalize his opinions. Some may not completely agree with what he says or does. But that's him, that's his personality.

We've all hung out as a group before and it was fine, but about 2 years ago, my friends sat me down for an intervention and told me stuff they didn't particularly like about my partner. I accepted the fact that he won't be included in most events but this was before I got engaged and before we lived together.
So the issue arose when my best friend's husband's birthday came up, it's basically a mixed group; not just an all girls event. So I was a bit taken aback that my partner was not even considered or let alone thought of. The thing that upset me is the principle and intention of the invite. He's my significant other, and just because they don't like him he's not included? And I felt for my partner, he obviously was hurt because he likes my friends and treated them as his friends too.

That obviously puts me in a really tough situation. How is it that everybody else in the group has their SO but I can't have mine? And what becomes this moving forward right? I am planning my wedding and I can't help but feel that there's a bit of a weird energy that's a bit disingenuous. Yes, they're there for me.. but obviously since it's his day too, he doesn't want people there that do not wish him well.

The other thing that upset me was my choice of keeping my engagement for a month. The reason I kept it was my best friend just got engaged a month ago so I did not want to take away her moment. Then my other friend was having a birthday, plus the ring was not ready as it was still being custom made and the sizing was wrong. Idk, I just felt like I was made to feel bad with the choice I made. Plus in hindsight, i preferred how it played out. It was intimate and I didn't have to stress about photos taken.
Another friend also asked why my partner didn't ask my parents for permission for my hand in marriage.. We've been together for so long and he's been over the house so many times, my parents treated him as my husband even way before. So we didn't really have the need to do so?

I also went oversees to attend my best friend's wedding but had to leave a bit earlier; my work couldn't really give me the time off but at the same time it was expensive. I stayed for 10 days. I decided to leave a day before since it was cheaper (direct flights on fridays) and since I was coming back I didn't want to go to work for 2 days as i'm jet lagged so i just took the extra days plus the weekend to recover. One week before I left for this trip, me and my partner decided to go on a roadtrip since we didn't get to spend as much time together (my focus the whole year was the wedding) and one of my friends said "oh i'm surprised you went cause you didnt mention anything."

Again making me feel some sort of way for my choices.

So I decided to sit the events out cause I just felt like my feelings and my partner's feelings we dismissed in this situation. I am taking some time to myself and I have not spoken to anyone for a week now.

I think you are right ... it is not cool they think that liek high school or something the eman girls can shut out your fiance..... seems petty they talked about him asking your parents what concern was taht to them other then trying very hard to put doubt in your head...

i think these sound like very superficial ppl whom do not like if your fiance sees right through them and being straightforward will call them out on it.

They have a immaturity issue you can not fix for them.

I ended up not going to my friends bday cause I'm just mentally exhausted. I didn't say anything though cause I find that I didn't need to explain myself. And I get a message saying that in the past she didn't let anything go between her coming to my birthday and all that. But see there was no issue for on my bday that affected me personally.

She goes and messages the grp saying I'm not well we need to sit down and talk and that she's free at (this time)

(...going off of her timeline and not considering my own. ...) I wanted to sit down with them with my fiance and they flat out said no. I'm like trying to get in their heads that the issue isn't with me but with my fiance. What's the point of them sitting with me when things aren't resolved with him? Yenno what I mean?

Have they in the past just told you what to do? wanting to sit down and giving your their time to do it is very inconsiderate .... of your life and schedule.

Why are they so opposed to sitting down with your fiance there .... they have no backbone to talk crap to his face? These may at one time been friends but clearly are showing they no longer are "friends"

They sat me down and said the things that they saw about him they didn't like and how sometimes I behaved but that has changed now as we as a couple also talked and are now living together so yenno things change. And they did just say to sort of accept the fact that he will never be invited or included to certain events and at the time I just sort of accepted it to diffuse the issue and at the same time at that time I was not engaged to him so I was like oh that's fine cause I can just go by myself in my own car and all that but we have been living togethet for a year now and share a vehicle...but I guess I never realized that internalizing it has festered and now it has a become self destruct bomb.

And now with my wedding coming up I just can't help but feel that ya they'll be there to support me on my day but it's his day too and I cannot just dismiss his feelings altogether.

Another incident came into light about planning a surprise bday for me back in March and they wanted to make it special for me but somehow idk what happened that grp conversation just died (my fiance showed me the convo and he even initiated the conversation) and he told them to tackle the decorations and what not and he will take charge of the cake. He mentioned the color that it was a pink color and sent inspo photos but they got frustrated that he wasn't being collaborative or giving more detail? Idk what the *** happened there. I guess he just had his take on it and it clashed with their ideas somehow? I really don't know what to say to this incident.

The Bday plans dropped sounds like a plan not confusion..... if it all went poorly they can turn and say see he did it.

seriously the more i hear wish i could give you a hug...

i know you most likely were polite and just going along before getting engaged and stuff. You also may be correct this ticked you off and while you are trying to think they will grow up and accept reality ... the resentment grows...

It is time to address it before your wedding... so you can find real people to stand up for you and him ... not some fake smile and side bets on when they think it will end or some petty thing.

Years down the road do you want to look at your photos and realize how these people were nOT true friends.

I'm not sure what you meant in the first bit there about the birthday..

Thank you I appreciate your support in this... yeah I'm the type of person that will just think of others before myself. I'm the people pleaser type. So it is normal to change my mind and I think it's pent up resentment... and now I'm realizing why am I doing this to myself.

my thought was the party planning conversation did not just naturally die............ they let it so if party was not a hit they would blame him....
