Has social media changed what we think is beautiful?
Lately I’ve been scrolling through social media and seeing all these “perfect” lives. Perfect vacations, perfect bodies, perfect relationships, expensive clothes and people who always seem to be having the best time.
As my first post here I wanted to talk about this because I think it affects both younger and older people. It’s so easy to look at someone’s life online and start comparing it to your own without even realizing it.
Perfect skin, fillers, lip injections, BBLs, tiny waists… after seeing these things so often they can start to feel like the normal standard of beauty.
And then there are followers and likes. Sometimes it feels like people connect their worth with how much attention they get online.
The strange part is that we all know social media isn’t the full reality but we still compare ourselves to it anyway.
I think we all have something beautiful about us. We don’t need to look like the people we see online to be beautiful. We’re all different and that’s what makes us special! We’re all beautiful in our own way and we shouldn’t let social media make us forget that.
Do you think social media has changed the way you see yourself or beauty?
Have you ever seen something online that made you feel like you weren’t enough?

I do think social media and media in general have played a big role in shaping what we consider beautiful or not. But in the end, I think we all come to see that the “ideal” life, ideal bodies, and so on aren’t realistic or real. And I believe most of us would ultimately choose what’s real over what’s unrealistic and fake. Still, even knowing that, I don’t think we can stop social media from affecting our mental health.....because of all the comparisons we make.I know I’ve definitely compared myself to people online without even realizing it, and I’ve seen things that made me feel like I wasn’t enough. So yes, social media has changed the way I see beauty sometimes, even when I know it’s not real. But I really agree that we’re all different, and that’s what makes us special....we’re all beautiful in our own way, and we shouldn’t let social media make us forget that.
