Help over Celebrity Mourning
My dad was a success in raising me as he introduced me to Rob Reiner through All in the Family. We love his work with Spinal Tap and When Harry Met Sally, which I didn’t know the latter was directed by Reiner. So when I heard about his passing I was heartbroken and couldn’t sleep for two nights straight until I called my parents one night. They understood me and were happy I felt the way I did about Rob Reiner during his lifetime.
However, I have never felt angrier about the world I live in until this happened. I don’t like politics of any kind, and I can’t classify myself based on one party, so I won’t criticize people who support Trump or their views like my best friend. This includes online spaces like this. But Trump’s response to Rob Reiner’s death made me realize what I dangerous world I live in and I need to hide. My previously mentioned best friend, likes Trump but I started resenting my friend because of his teasing about my dislike of Trump during the 2024 election period. However, that discussion was really started by his parents and my friend usually doesn’t discuss politics otherwise. I’ve talked to my best friend to reconnect with him after a few weeks of being busy, but I am fearful of when my friend will mention a word about politics again.
I am no longer interested in relationships, so of course I can’t have kids right now. But because of Rob Reiner, I went from feeling lukewarm about having kids to feeling that it is fundamentally wrong to possibly bring someone into the world who could commit heinous crimes, including against their parents. I have always believed even before Rob Reiner’s death that one wrong move on the parents’ part will cause deep, unsolvable resentments in the kids.
I will never stop being sad about Rob Reiner, and I may even avoid viewing any of his works from this point forward. But that doesn’t stop my dad from talking to me recently about Rob’s life, which has made me uneasy, even though I love my dad and know he’s understanding of my response to this. And of course another wrong move from my best friend might lead to me ghosting him forever without any explanation from me.
How should I handle future conversations with my dad about Rob Reiner? Including seeing his movies/shows?

Maybe if you can separate his work from other items. You may still enjoy his many movies directed, many celebrities people may or may not like from the little insight they have seen of them that does not change their work
His son is sick and was not getting better. They knew and lived with that.
We do not get details of someone's life even if famous we get glimpse and tell ourselves we know them.
This does not need to frame your life based on things not important to connected, like political views or opinions of others. if you do not want to talk about or watch movies don't .......tell your dad the truth this item triggers you.
Hi @toughTiger6481 Thanks for replying to me and sharing your input. I’m sure this will be a phase that will pass soon. I often separate celebrities and their works from their actions anyway so I can do the same here. I appreciate you!

Well, you should respect your parents for sure.
Meaning your parents are them and you are you.
If you are not align with the view of the person your dad introduce such as Rob Reiner then you could just say it that you did learn some good things from that person but it might not be align or suitable for you caused everyone is different, which is okay if your parents are open minded else, just listen and learn what good you could learn from Rob Reiner, because he might have some point that you should consider.
Basically, know yourself and know your enviroment better, act wise, that's all I could say.
Talking about other ppl will not help anything but fuel negativity so better focus on your personal development such as learn to navigate yourself in such situation yourself.
I hope this opinion of mine could help you.
Thank you.
@organticUnicorn9398 Thanks so much for sharing your input! I agree with you that a lot of times when I have just focused on myself instead of people-pleasing I have felt happier.
@Sasquatch254
great for you.
