'If you don't love yourself, how can anyone else love you?'
People need to stop saying this, it's not true and it only makes the person feel worse.
Would you refuse to show love to someone because they didn't love themselves?
I just want you to know that you're worthy self loving nobody's journeys, easy to find that and I empathize with you and if you need someone to talk to I'm always available
I completely agree. You don't have to love yourself for other people to love you! It can be hard to accept love if you don't love yourself, but other people are going to love you anyway. Perhaps we should focus on letting people know that they are worth loving instead of telling them that they have to love themselves before others can love them.
@Buzzyjoe wow, that's a lot to take in and I'm proud of you for sharing that I I would do my best to show the person that there were the entry them with kindness and be gentle
@Buzzyjoe If you lack self-love, you'll expect others to fill that void. Putting undue pressure on them is not fair to them and it's not fair to you. Plus you'll be able to better understand your worth, boundaries and your love language when you love yourself. It'll lead to a healthier relationship between you and the ones who love you. That's what the saying means. Try a little to understand the intention behind these sayings.
@Buzzyjoe I love myself a lot!!
TW just in case
I believe I would show love to someone Even if they are during a panic attacks etc. If I love someone I would love them regardless of their mental health situation. And maybe I would care for them more that way.
@Buzzyjoe
I believe this phrase is used so often because it truly reflects our society. People want to surround themselves with those who emit so-called "positive energy" and confidence. In a way, they are enchanted by it and they don't allow you to express anything negative without sugar-coating. And of course it’s easier for them to put the blame on you, claiming they can’t love someone who doesn’t love themselves first, than to admit that THEY cannot handle your darkness.
Self-love is not something that can be cultivated in isolation because, in reality, it’s just the reflection of the love we’ve received from others since the beginning of our lives. People who love themselves do so because they received love from their environment first. They were simply luckier than others who never received it. So, isn't it unfair to ask from an unloved person to love themselves the same way the loved person does? Would we ever expect a flower to grow normally without watering?
Asking from people to self-isolate, solve their problems all by themselves and come back only when they're healed (or never) perpetuates the problem of lack of love. Only way to break the cycle is to stop stigmatizing "pessimistic" and "miserable" people with theories like the rotten orange that poisons the surrounding oranges and start to embrace them and show true care instead.
