I’m disappointed in myself today
Today was supposed to be my routine endoscopy, but I couldn’t go through with it. I got really scared 😱, and my anxiety was making everything feel overwhelming. So I ended up canceling the procedure.
Now I’m feeling really disappointed in myself ☹️. I know it was supposed to be a routine procedure, but my fear got the best of me today. I’m hoping I can work through this anxiety and find the courage to try again when I’m ready.
I’m also wondering if there might be another approach or another test that could help check what’s going on. I’m just trying to find a way forward that I can feel comfortable with.
I could really use some encouragement and support right now. ❤️
@jdd11 Endoscopy or any other medical treatment for that matter can be naturally difficult to go through. So, I would feel you need to be kind to yourself and not be dissapointed.
I understand you have went for this procedure before, right? Make yourself mentally ready maybe by saying "this will help with my health related issues, hence I will get it done!" or something to this affect.
@jdd11
Anxiety so very common; I am sure that the physician is use to that. I am curious, have you reached out to the physician to discuss why you had to cancel? I am wondering if he has any options for you.
they haven’t contacted me yet. i hope there is other options.
@jdd11
Thank you so much for sharing this with me. It really means a lot knowing I’m not alone in this. I’m trying to be kinder to myself and take things one step at a time. I’m curious, what was the reason your doctor wanted you to get an endoscopy? Are you having trouble swallowing too, or dealing with acid reflux? I’m asking because I’ve been dealing with those things as well, and that’s part of what makes me so anxious about the procedure. The sedation is also really scaring me, and that’s probably one of the biggest things making me anxious about going through with it. I’m cheering for you too, and I hope we both find the strength to get through this fear. 🙏❤️
@jdd11
That reflux seems to be so prevalent is this day and age. I am sorry that you have to deal with that. I remember back before H2 Blockers and PPI's were over the counter; there was a lot of suffering. At least now it is easy to manage. Keep good communication with your physician so that he can guide you back to good health. You deserve the best.
So sorry to hear that but just keep on believing in yourself and God if you're not religious just trust yourself and everything will be fine

I also missed a really important appointment today to get a nerve conduction study done, and I put off scheduling my echocardiogram because my anxiety and fear overwhelmed me.
Don't be disappointed in yourself. We all have days like that and an endoscopy is a scary procedure, but from what I've heard and been told, it isn't as bad as what our minds make it out to be.
If you have something going on with you that they're doing procedure to rule out, I would definitely speak with your doctor because putting things off (and here I'm a hypocrite lol) is the number one reason why people end up in bad shape. Ive been told by so many Drs (bc I have put things off for so long) that what may have been a minor problem with an easy fix could easily have become or will become a huge issue with a not so easy fix because I put it off due to anxiety and fear.
See if they can give you something for the anxiety right before the procedure, maybe? Id bring it up with your doctor and see if it's a possibility and check in with them to see if there's an alternative option to the endoscopy. Just don't put it off too much longer.
You got this.
@jdd11 I dont want to make the feeling worse, but its actually scary. They gave me sedatives during the procedure, and I still woke up when they hurt my throat for a brief second.
It is scary! Hope you gather all your courage and push through! (They also learned I have a chronic disease so it was important!)
@jdd11
Hopefully by now, your physician has given you some options. You had stated that your greatest concern was about being sedated. I had a friend once who had to have the EGD performed while she was pregnant. Due to the pregnancy, she could not receive any form of sedation. I just wanted to throw that out there for you.
@jdd11 This happens often, don't beat yourself up about it. Perhaps your medical doctor could suggest any alternatives if there are alternatives you make want to check with your insurance plan about coverage. If all else fails, it's better to know about your body than to not know, as we age things change.
@jdd11 It is completely normal to feel nervous about a medical procedure, and there is nothing to be ashamed of. Take the time you need to feel informed and comfortable before making your decision. Please feel free to reach out to your healthcare provider to ask questions or discuss alternative options; they are there to help you navigate your choices safely and support whatever path is best for you.
