Lost my light. Has anyone seen my light?
Sometime in the past I had a light on my ship. I could see the light at the port that I was sailing toward. The moon was bright and the stars were out. Now there is only darkness. I feel the ship under my feet. I feel the gentle motion of the ocean. There are sparks in the distance randomly flashing now and then. I feel alive but any light is far beyond my grasp. I am not blind.

Lost
..my compass just spins.. oh god.. have I lost my bearing?

That is a great analogy ..... i think many times ........we feel as if our light is out or missing and the path is dark .

I have a bit of a problem with using analogies and metaphors too often when explaining things. I speak as if I am in the room with the things that I am talking about and try to describe how the feelings as if personifying each word and illuminating them.
Like putting your thumb over a flashlight.
Typically, the light inside of me burns so bright that I can see far into the distance and illuminate all of the people around me.
Now it feels like the blue flame that you get when the fuel empty and its just burning fumes, no light, enough heat to know that something is there but not enough to warm up, so small that the slightest breeze could blow it out.
Is this what it feels like to be blue?

Your poem reminded me of another poem by Kenneth Fearing that I cannot find at the moment and this bit from the lyrics of 'Fear and Loathing' by Marina and the Diamonds
And when the time comes along
And the lights run out
I know a light will burn on
When they blow me out
