“Love, Boundaries, and Protecting Your Peace: A Lesson Learned the Hard Way”

Hey everyone!

First off, I want to apologize for not being around as much these past few days. Life threw a few personal things my way, and I couldn’t be as active as I’d like to be. I also missed some comments and posts, and I’m really sorry about that! You know how it goes—sometimes, you just can’t juggle everything at once. But I’m back now, ready to jump in and catch up!❤️

Now, I want to talk about something that’s been on my mind lately, and honestly, it’s something I’ve been reflecting on because of my own personal experience. You know, life has this way of teaching you lessons when you least expect it, and for me, it happened with someone I’ve known for years—someone I considered family, really.🥹

We shared so many amazing memories, and I truly believed they were someone I would always be there for, no matter what. But over time, I realized that while love and loyalty are so important, they don’t mean I have to accept behavior that harms me or my peace. And trust me, that realization wasn’t easy. I spent so much time thinking, “I’ve known this person forever, they’ve been through my highs and lows, and I’ve shared the best moments of my life with them… I have to forgive them for everything, right?”🤦🏻‍♀️

But here’s the thing I learned: It’s not about forgiveness being off the table. It’s about realizing that my mental health and well-being are just as important. And if someone repeatedly crosses boundaries, it’s okay to say “Hey, this isn’t working for me anymore.” It doesn’t make me a bad person, and it doesn’t mean I love them any less—it just means I’m choosing to love myself enough to protect my peace.

I know, it sounds easier said than done, right? But trust me, there’s a sense of freedom that comes with realizing you don’t need to carry the weight of someone else’s mistakes. You can still care deeply, but you can also let go of the things that don’t serve you.

So, I’m sharing this because it’s something I’ve lived through, and it’s one of those lessons that keeps popping up in different areas of life. And if you’re going through something similar, I want you to know that it’s okay to prioritize yourself. Protect your peace. Don’t feel guilty about it. You deserve happiness, too!

I’d love to hear from you all. Have any of you ever had to draw the line with someone you loved? How did you handle it? Let’s chat about it and support each other through it. We all deserve to love and be loved, but we also deserve to be treated with respect and care.

Looking forward to hearing your stories, let’s make this a positive and encouraging conversation!❤️🙏

Take care of yourselves, and remember: It’s okay to put you first sometimes. You’ve got this! 🙌

Hiya @brightaday yes of course, life can become all lifey at times, it's always okay to take your time in getting back to your usual cups-activities and interactions, always is great to see you around, spreading brightness and warmth!💛

This is such a wonderful topic to discuss upon, I feel many of us have been in similar situations, and you're right, it's extremely difficult to set that sorta boundary with someone we've grown to be fond of/ has influence on our life.

What may help is to remind ourselves to be kind to self, not take/ accept anything that we wouldn't want to see our love one taking/ enduring from someone else either, and to start viewing boundaries as not an "end" to a particular bond/ relationship, rather a means to continue that bond/ relationship minus any form of disrespect or unsolicited behavior that's not benefitting us in anyway!

Its difficult, yes, but gotta start choosing yourself, the rest of the world can adjust accordingly!🌞

@brightaday I was/ still i am going through this similar issue. I had a person i loved and deeply cared about but i had to let go of her due to various reasons. Basically , i had to choose myself, my happiness and peace over her. Just as you said , it's not easy . And even after you take the decision, the life afterward is not easy, sometimes you feel so lonely that you regret your actions .

Sometimes, i feel like what i had tried harder to convince her afterall i was happy with her and my life would be better if she was there whilst i was prioritizing some time for myself . My heart still yearns for the midway with some of my time for myself , the rest for her . I am sure she would have agreed to it too , its not like that i didnt try to communicate to her. If she had known it would cause us to seperate , i am sure and i believe in her that she would have agreed for the midway. It really hurts to lose someone who was like a part of myself.

Thank you for sharing your story. It makes it more bearable if you know that others have been through the same things as you.
