Making the Wise Choice

Hi all,

In my case, this is specific to alcohol at the moment, but I'm sure it's probably the same with other problems.

I drink too much, most nights. I tend not to drink myself into oblivion most of the time, but what I do drink has a very negative effect on my quality of life. I have known I have a problem for many years, and am constantly trying to quit. It is extremely difficult for me to make the wise choice though. I get urges around lunchtime, and then I dwell on them and try to fight them into submission.

By the time I am on my way home, I am exhausted from the fight and more often than not, I head into the supermarket and buy a minimum of a six-pack. I get drunk alone, go to bed, then I get up the next day and repeat the process.

It might be worth pointing out that I am dysthymic, have general and social anxiety, and am pretty sure I have quiet, self-sabotaging BPD.

I am just wondering if anyone has a way to make the wise choice, whatever your personal situation without it taking over your whole thought process every day.

Thanks in advance.

@Kyuun

i am not sure if this is transferable solution .........but when i am in a certain mood i feel like pigging out on BBQ potato chips ....... or other junk food to destroy my fitness progress ........

it is totally self defeating............. i make it hard to get to the store on way home from work ......and if i find myself at store then i found buying a horrific generic chip was gross ......... i tell myself if i really feel the need to self sabotage i must buy the BAD chips ........ can you buy a gross tasting beer and tell your self if you feel you must this is the choice ..........

@toughTiger6481 thanks for this, it's definitely a possibility. I'm actually doing okay at the moment. This is my seventh day sober. I decided to think about meeting my basic physiological needs. One I am not meeting is ample rest, so I need to move from my floor mattress to a decent bed. To buy a bed I need money, so I can't buy beer. Then because I'm not drinking, I get a new bed for better rest, and I have better rest because I'm not drinking. So far it's working well I think.

If I find myself in the shop, I will definitely buy the cheap soy based beer to punish myself though :)
