Missions

I've found from a lifetime of anxiety that doing small "tasks" which I call "missions" help bring some peace. If I'm feeling stressed I'll say to myself "Ok, here's your missions: Walk around the block, eat a small meal, feed your pet mouse." It forces me to keep going, to keep busy and I forget just a little of my stress. For some reason thinking a small thing is an important mission gives it meaning, its no longer, "Eh I'll feed the mouse cause I'm bored, listless, and stressed" now its like "I have to feed this cute little pet mouse or it will croak" now its an "important" valuable distracting task and it helps.

I think that your way of reframing your tasks is very creative and motivating. It gives you a sense of meaning behind tasks that may not seem particularly interesting or important from afar. You’re kind of like an adventurer or a secret agent working through life to get things done that are important maintaining your kingdom or your home nation (your own life). I think you would love the idea of gamification. I think about Pokémon Go as an excellent version of gamification of exercise.

Gamification is when you turn activities into games. Like walking a mile in Pokémon Go involves catching Pokémon and gaining egg steps to hatch them. So you could turn the activity of cooking into a game where you’re tasked with three different goals (flipping the egg perfectly) as a way of having fun with things that might not be as enjoyable.
