My parents
Hello
My parents have that condition that make their IQ level below average, so-called mental ***, and it happened that i am normal. Being raiaed by them have affected me in some way especially dealing with outside world.
Anyone has gone through same experience? Any tips appreciated
@lightEast7528 First of all happy for you, you are normal, it is enough to say that you can live a normal life, although some of their behavior will affect you, but they are your parents after all, so as much as possible contact the society, you will know what is normal.
Possibly. My mother never took an IQ test as far as I know...if she did, it didn't happen in my lifetime.
My father was a brilliant though somewhat flawed man, but still better than average by far. As for my mother...🙁 Let's just say she always meant well. She was never a truly bad person. But she wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, either. I started occasionally noticing the difference in her & my cognitive styles sometime in my mid-teens, but it was only after I grew up & had dealt with a few different people that I saw the problem for what it was.
The only advice I have is to notice what your parents do that trips them up, & to not do those things. In short, don't make their mistakes. That's the real difference in intelligence levels: The smarter you are, the better you are at learning; conversely if your IQ is at the low end of the average range then learning will be more difficult & if your IQ is below 90, you may have trouble learning anything new at all. That's why those of lesser intelligence tend to make the same mistakes repeatedly, &/or engage in self-defeating behaviors repeatedly.
If you have recurrent issues communicating with them & those issues shred your peace of mind, you may have to move out if you don't have your own place already & minimize relations with them. If the situation is bad enough you may even have to cut them off fron contact...not a pleasant option, but sometimes it is necessary. Whatever decision you make, stick to it & don't let anyone talk you out of it.
