My problem today
Evan- fiancee
Katelyn- sister
Mom- biological mother
Dad- step dad me and him own the car together
Everything going wrong in my life rn,
Unfortunately I made a decision to let evan drive my car when mom had specifically told me due to the insurance and him not being able to drive the car because he is an uninsured driver instead of telling him I decided I would just continue to let him drive even tho mom said we could lose everything if he crashes and we get sued I didn't have the courage to tell him and I felt bad that every time he wanted to drive I would have to say no I just didn't, rob saw the both of us on our way to school and saw evan in the driver's seat rob called mom really mad and mom texted me asking if he was and I lied saying that we swapped driving at like peaceful because I felt sick when I just let him drive because he wanted to. Mom caught me lying and got very upset. The rest of the day I was just wondering what was going to happen when we arrived hm emom asked for the keys I immediately just thought they where taking the car for a day but mom said I can't drive anymore at all and took the keys and her and rob might end up selling the car and dropping me off the insurance completly so if i get a new car i have to get insurance and everything myself when I heard mom say sell I immediately teared up, I don't want to lose the car it's important to me and I hate having the feeling of being trapped and not being able to leave somewhere when I want, I now will probably not be getting the car back and it makes me cry every morning because I really hate the feeling or thought of them selling it and me not being able to drive, evan is upset with me because I can't take him to work or do anything with the car anymore and he has to find rides from other people. Katelyn left our moms and went to dad's because she was so upset we had to get up at 6am and ride the bus and everyone is just upset with me mom, dad, Katelyn, and Evan. I just feel like I want to go back in time and not let evan drive so I was never in this predicament, what do you think my punishment should be, should they give the car back, sell it and take me of the insurance, or earn the car back or any other punishments or anything you can think of.
@aquaTriangle3782 Hi. Sorry you’re facing this.
“mom said we could lose everything if he crashes”
I would say this isn’t about punishment it’s about not losing everything. You would really really really want to go back in time to fix that. Don’t overthink this. It is what it is. Yes it sucks big time. You not only broke a perfectly reasonable and critically important rule, you then tried to lie your way out of it. There is not one reason in that scenario where you deserve a second chance.
That said, I have sympathy for your predicament. We all make mistakes. If I were your mom that car is sold. I wouldn’t be happy about doing so. I would be feeling angry and hurt that you betrayed my trust. If you were to protest or pout I would be even more angry because I would perceive you as not taking my rule seriously and feel disrespected that you would imagine I would change my mind. So I would say you do have a chance to at least make this easier on your mom. Accept the consequences and move on from there.

I understand the feeling of being trapped or hard to arrange transportation around not having a car.... i
If i was your mom ........i would seriously consider selling the car... it is more about you not seeing your moms fear of serious liability in letting your fiance drive..... if they let you have the car back ...... how long before you let him drive again ... when he asks you to.............. because if you understood your moms position you would have said sorry i can't let you drive in the first place.
