Need help finding psychologist.
Hello, I have had a hard time talking to people my whole life. I barely ever leave my house, and I have had a hard time getting a job. I finally convinced myself to go talk to a doctor about my issue.
My doctor is giving me anti-anxiety medication, and they also wanted me to find a psychologist. I have been having a hard time finding a psychologist though. I searched on my health insurance website, but there are barely any psychologists to choose from. Also, there is barely any information about the psychologists on my health insurance website.
I have also tried looking on other sites for a psychologist, but most of them kinda suck. Many of those other sites also barely list any info, and they often times don't have any reviews on any of the psychologists.
So, does anyone know of any good sites to look for psychologists on. I need to find a psychologist in my network, and I would prefer to get telehealth. I would also like to see reviews on psychologists.
Thanks
@Joe47
Hello, I understand how frustrating it can be to find a psychologist that meets your needs, especially when there are so many options out there. Have you tried using the Psychology Today website? They have a directory of psychologists that you can search by location and speciality, and you can also filter by insurance and telehealth options. The website also includes a profile for each psychologist where you can read more about their background and treatment approach, as well as see reviews from previous patients.
Another option you might consider is asking your primary care doctor or insurance company for a referral to a psychologist who is in-network and offers telehealth services. They may be able to provide you with a more personalized list of options based on your specific needs.
@Mya000 Thanks for replying. Since my post I have found about 8 different places that I could go to for therapy. My problem now is that I just can't convince myself to call any of them. I don't know if some of them do telehealth services, and I wanted to make sure they take my insurance. I am just scared to even call any of them to ask. The same thing happened with my doctor. I got medicaid like 5-6 years ago, and I only recently talked to my doctor in the last 6 months. It's so hard getting help with social anxiety because in order to get help I have to talk to all sorts of different people which is the very thing I have a hard time doing.
@Joe47 You're welcome! It's great to hear that you have found multiple options for therapy. It's understandable that you feel anxious about making the calls to inquire about their services and insurance coverage. It can be challenging to face social anxiety, especially when seeking help. However, taking the first step is an important part of the process. Remember that many healthcare providers are willing to work with patients to address their concerns, and telehealth services may be an option. It may also be helpful to ask a trusted friend or family member to help you make the calls or accompany you to appointments. Keep up the good work in seeking support for yourself!
