Paranoia

Not too sure where to post this so I thought I'd start here. I was wondering if anyone out there has had good ways dealing with paranoia? My partner has an addiction and recently been doing something that I had no knowledge of until earlier this week. And he is now going through a process to get help and get better with his situation. These past few days have been really hard for me, I'm paranoid all the time that he is doing the same thing behind my back even though he tells me he is getting better, which I know he is he has shown me proof and I believe him. But I'm so paranoid that I can't think of anything else most of the time. I'm constantly wanting check into his things to see if he's relapsed with his problem. And I know that our relationship isn't going to progress if I'm constantly gonna be paranoid and being all up on him about it. I try distracting myself throughout the day but it's so hard to not feel this way. I just want a different method to calm down my paranoia because it's not healthy for me or him in the long run especially if we are trying to fix our relationship. Any advice and options would be very much appreciated.

@NovaCat227 Hi! How are you doing? I'm really sorry to hear about your boyfriend's addiction. I can understand how you are feeling and the fact that you are paranoid, especially if he's broken your trust in the past. I know it's a hard process to break out of, but I understand you are trying your best. I think it's important to try your best to know that he is trying his best and to do your best to trust him, as long as he isn't lying to you or breaking your trust. Trust your gut and don't forget that communication is always the best method! Good luck! ❤️

Hi I am doing better! And you are absolutely right I am trying my best within myself to trust this process we are going through and to have faith that he is getting himself help to get better. We have since then communicated a lot and at the end of the day before bed we talk to each other and check up on how one another is doing and if there's anything on his end as far as any urges arising. So yes we have been communicating a lot and I think it's helped with my paranoia. And thank you so much for your advice ❤️

@NovaCat227 Sounds like a deeply troubling experience. So of course you're going to feel paranoia...you deeply love him and want to see him well. Someone in your shoes might also feel a lot of fear because of literally scary experiences. It will be hard to trust someone like this and addiction can be cycle for some people. You are a good person to wanting to provide a good environment for your SO to heal.

For me paranoia has usually been more heightened when my world is small and I'm not pursing what I'm best at doing. It goes bonkers when I'm at home all the time and especially when I'm by myself. If there's any way you can find a supportive in-person community...or if you're neglecting yourself and your talents, maybe try to focus on what makes you happy and what you're good at... dream bigger for yourself. That might help you to take the focus off the other person - they have to be responsible for their own actions. Feel at peace that you're doing the best you can do.

Definitely I'm trying to be in the most positive mood to support my partner with their addiction recovery. Lately I've been spending more time with my baby as much as possible and I've gotten back into drawing and some shows that I stopped watching mid way. It's been helping me keep my mind off of all the bad stuff lately. So far all those things have been working for me :)
