Question about medication
Hey all. I know medicine affects everyone differently.
Does anyone take prozac or lexapro who has some ore existing issues with blood pressure?
I haven't been diagnosed with a BP issue - when anxiety or panic spikes it gets really high. My primary doc wants to see if anxiety meds will bring it down along with more experience and better eating habits.
I read that these meds can raise BP- just curious if that's been anyone's experience?
@NewHorizon5544 As I am not a physician I can't provide you with any advice about medication but blood pressure can be a very complex issue as everything in the human body. The causes may have a connection with your mental health (as it can definitely affect the body too) but it may just be a common side effect of the med. In any case, before taking more meds it's crucial that you take a second opinion from another prescribing clinician

@NewHorizon5544 Selective seratonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) like Prozac (fluoxetine) and Lexapro (escitalopram) may raise blood pressure but are less likely to do so than other anti-depressants. If you are particularly sensitive or have a history of high blood pressure, you may want to monitor your reaction to a new medication or new dosage in the first few weeks - a portable blood pressure cuff can be purchased cheaply online through any of the major retailers. You also have to weigh the pros/cons in your particular situation, especially if medication is unavoidable or the recommended action. Good luck.
