Sleep Problems+Relationship with Father
I'm 16, and I don't have a good relationship with my father. He's 58, and he's a raging racist, homophobe, and conspiracy theorist. He's been this way as long as I remember, but especially these past few years. I argue with him all the time and he always resorts to threatening to hurt me or calling me names and degrading me. About a year ago I had a really bad argument with my Dad where he screamed at me, threatened to beat the sh!t out of me, and then called me a p*ssy when I cried. That night, I fell asleep and had a terrible nightmare where I killed him and it felt so real. Now, I would never actually do that but it felt so real, and scary that I've developed some sort of phobia of sleep. Every single night since then, I've been terrified to fall asleep. I jolt awake, i shake, sometimes I start to cry. I have noticed that it helps if I sleep with something playing in my ears but whenever my headphones are charging and I have to sleep in silence, I'm terrified. Really just wanted to vent and put that out there. Not sure how many people will see this but whatever. Feel free to ask questions if you have them.
@ELIJAHHHH
I'm so sorry he called you that word, it's not right at all.
I'm sorry you have to witness such rage.
And I can see why you wouldn't want to sleep.
I strongly urge you to just not engage.
Let him have his own hatred.
His own opinions.
You cannot control that.
You can control your reactions.
Don't give him the space he needs to vent.
Talk about the weather if you have to.
Don't take the bait.
You won't always have to live like this.
And you don't want things escalating , so someone would ever do something they'd regret.
You're father doesn't decide the type of person you are 💚
